dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.

A Dog's View of Mercury Retrograde
Dear Diary: My Human can be so silly. And a little clueless. She knows that Mercury is in retrograde and still she tries to function as if life is normal. I don’t get it. We all know that Mercury is the fastest moving planet in the solar system. Anytime you have this kind of planetary ego showing off, life is bound to get a little messy.

I'm Adopted
I have been told that I was born on an Amish farm on the west side of lower Michigan. I don’t remember much about that. What I do know is that I am adopted. I look at my brothers and sisters and I don’t look anything like them. My big brother is really big and different colors than me. My two sisters look completely different from me, one looks a little like my brother but the other one is much smaller. Then my other brother only has two legs and feathers. Tell me I’m not adopted; I don’t look like anyone here. Even my parents are different from me, only two legs and no tail. It’s ok, I know they love me. But that’s not my story, when I was real little, I was attack.

What The Husky
Day 2: Christmas morning is always an exciting time, especially when you get to see the smiles on your child/childrens faces. Well the morning after we got Bloo was like that except, a lot more smelly and alot less smiling. The excitement of having a new puppy was still running through all our veins, however, we forgot just that, she is a puppy! Essentially she is a furry baby; and just like a baby she pooped, peed and was getting into things she was not supposed to.

Rex
I got two gifts for my eighth birthday, but neither was what I’d asked for. The first was a dog, who I named Rex, and the second was a little black notebook, that I also named Rex. I did not have a particularly good imagination at the time, and I proved it by naming both gifts after a third Rex… my dad, Rex McCallister, who gave me the gifts. I loved all three Rexes more than I loved just about anything else as a kid.

Baloo
I awake on the 192nd day of quarantine to a pounding on my door. It’s September and a heat wave makes the days foggier, stickier. Even now at, what— 6:43am, my thighs have suctioned. More knocking. My feet are heavy. I remember the virus, find a mask. Briefly, I’m grateful for its ability to trap my morning breath.

All We Need
I trudged up the rugged slope and pulled my hood down lower, my boots slipping on wet rock. A few ewes eyed me warily in the distance. The wind howled like a pack of coyotes, whipping rain into my face and trickling icy droplets down the back of my neck.
