The Magic of Manifestation
My father was a carpenter, although he didn’t have any formal training. He was a truck driver by trade, and a very gentle soul and musician by nature. He loved to create with his hands and wood was his medium. Our home was filled with shelves and bookcases that he had skillfully put together in his own special fashion.

The Big House
Its a Sunday afternoon and I just woke up from a nap in my friend and mentor's "Big House." You see, our air conditioning unit went out last week, and then we had a hurricane warning for our area, so our friend was nice enough to allow us to stay in her home that she has mostly packed up and moved from for a few days until we were able to get things settled at our home.

Change and Growth
Change is one of the hardest things that I’ve dealt with and that’s because I like things the way they are and I get comfortable with where I am in life. However, you lose friends, you go through changes with school, family, and friends, and I’ve learned too much about that these past few months. Going to school full time can be a good time because you made it this far and you begin to grow and put yourself out there. However, no one said that it was going to be easy and I learned that the hard way. Going through a lot of changes with myself mentally and physically, I realized that school was not for me at the moment. What was important was that I get myself to a place where I am happy. I lost a lot of friends in the process and lost my family; however, I did learn who was there for me because they really cared for my well being. Living independently seemed to be an amazing thing because I could make decisions for myself however, it wasn’t easy and I didn’t expect it to be. I had to motivate myself to look for jobs, to put myself in a good place with good people surrounding me. However, those past few months were hard. All that time that I was going from place to place because I thought being in my own home was too toxic really made me a stronger person; however, I realized that being on your own comes with a lot of responsibility. Money is a huge factor because I had to learn to save up if I wanted to get an apartment or a car or something to treat myself every once in awhile. After searching for jobs, I had found one that I loved so much and a place where I can go to get my mind off of things and help other people and make new relationships. I was slowly finding myself again and knew that these changes were going to be a good thing. Sometimes you have to realize that you need time to work on yourself and figure it all out. It’s okay to not know what you want in love and be frustrated because eventually you will figure it out. I believe that if I did it then anyone is capable of making better changes to benefit their lives. It’s okay to speak up and ask for help; it’s okay to not be okay. Life is one big change and you have to surround yourself with people that will motivate you and care about all the things you are doing in life. I never thought not going to school was a horrible idea and I was afraid I wasn’t going to succeed but I put myself out there and worked hard to get where I am now. I have faith in everyone that they can do it too. Everyone will face problems and situations that will knock them down however, you just have to get right back up and not give up.

Are Other People Stopping Your Dreams?
Model, actor, designer, carpenter, engineer, screenwriter, author, activist, business owner, artist, spokesperson. Do any of these sound like you? No, they don't. How do I know this, you say? Well, you would not have clicked on this post if you had become/are doing something to become the person you want to be. The names listed above are different "you's," different "you's" that don't exist. Can they exist? Yes, but why don't they? They don't exist because you are too scared.

Revealing Myself Through This Journey
I admit that it has not been as an easy journey to get where I am today, but I am grateful to have joined the roller coaster ride otherwise known as college. America has provided me the tools, allowing me to work hard and choose the lifestyle I want. All of us have goals we want to accomplish. Everyone has different ambitions that allow them to overcome adversity. My goal is to receive my Associates and Bachelors in Science, earn a doctoral degree, participate in giving back to the community, and inspire others. I want to put my degree to practical use and appreciate the qualities of my life. My life experiences have taught me to accept myself for who I am and grow. Hopefully, revealing myself will help inspire others overcoming difficulties in life. After all, receiving an education now plays a vital role than we can ever imagine and our differences can prepare us for the best and the worst yet to come.

$2.25
I walked hastily through the automatic double doors and hopped into my vehicle as quickly as I could. After throwing the small yellow plastic bag into the passenger seat I fumbled to put the keys into the ignition and fasten my seat belt. Taking a deep breath I settle back into the seat but find myself pushed back into nervousness and embarrassment as I hear the sounds of people exiting out the front of the store. I keep my head down, not wanting to make eye contact and hoping that they weren't looking. From the corner of my eye, I realize that it wasn't the people who were behind me and with a sigh of relief I pull into reverse and exit the parking lot.

Get Your Values Together
Everyone wants value, everyone wants to be valued, everyone can be valuable. Yet, the truth is we are not who we say we are, we are more of who our values show we are. Your values depict the "WHY" of who you are, and honestly, sometimes those values get fuzzy, like old antenna televisions.

Learning to Bloom in Adversity
As the second week of my Fall semester comes to a close, I've been reflecting on my collegiate journey. More than just remembering good times, new friends I made, or anything else, I'm reflecting on how I managed to graduate with an A.A. degree, then a B.A. degree, and now trying to obtain my Master's degree. It all seems too good to be true at times and I've had the odds stacked against me; I'm a first-generation college student (neither of my parents obtained anything more than their high school diplomas), multi-ethnic, bisexual, female, and... I'm disabled.

Volunteer Work
I have several ideas on how to volunteer my time in my city. I can become a volunteer reading tutor, which would be a great experience to add to my resume. I need to do something with my time besides writing. I also need to join city council at some point. The library also needs library service volunteers, which I can also do. I’m looking to do something with my time daily besides my career readiness classes. I want to join my homeowners' association group for example. I can also take a disaster readiness class because I really need to put together a disaster readiness kit before the next earthquake hits. I was also thinking about starting up a routine with volunteering for NAMI.

Change It
Try it, renew yourself and get ready. Many opportunities will be on the way, and they will make you smile! If life is no longer able to satisfy your desires. If you have looked in the mirror and thought you would like to be living different experiences, change it. Change your appearance, your way of behaving, raise your head. Learn how to face the world, because it can't keep making you scared or make you feel small.
