The Potent Part of Manifesting You May Be Missing
A lesson in LOA
“Thoughts become things” is the mantra of all of us who practice the Law of Attraction (LOA). It’s one of the most repeated phrases in this practice of calling forth the things in life you want – it’s printed on vision boards, used in affirmations, and spoken like a spell. And yes — I believe our thoughts are powerful – I’ve been studying and practicing LOA since around 2000. I believe intention matters. I believe what we focus on expands.
But there is a potent part of manifesting that often gets skipped over because it’s less glamorous than whispering affirmations into the mirror.
You have to move.
You have to participate.
You have to meet the universe halfway.
Manifestation is not mental wishing. It is energetic alignment followed by physical action. You can’t simply put the words out into the universe and then sit idle, hoping something falls into your lap. If you do this, you may find yourself waiting a long time.
If you want to receive a check for $1,000 in the mail, you cannot simply sit on your couch visualizing an envelope with your name on it and expect the postal worker to materialize it from thin air. The universe works through channels. Through pathways. Through people. Through systems already in motion.
- Did you apply for a freelance job?
- Did you follow up on unpaid invoices?
- Did you enter a contest?
- Did you pitch your services?
- Did you sell something?
- Did you ask for a raise?
- Did you even open yourself to opportunities that could logically lead to money?
The check doesn’t just “appear.” It flows through something. Manifestation is less like magic smoke and more like irrigation. You have to dig the trenches so the water knows where to go.
The same is true for love and LOA. You can journal about finding love or even your Twin Flame. You can write lists describing their eyes, their humor, and their undying love for you. You can light pink candles and recite affirmations about being chosen and adored. And all of that is beautiful. It aligns your nervous system with possibility.
But if you never leave your house…
If you never download the dating app…
If you never say yes to the party…
If you never make eye contact…
If you never allow yourself to be seen…
… Who is the universe supposed to send?
Romance requires proximity. It requires participation. It requires vulnerability in motion.
There is a misconception that taking action somehow means you “don’t trust the universe enough.” As if effort cancels faith. As if movement means you’re forcing. But that thinking is backwards, because aligned action is not forcing. It is cooperation. It’s the difference between gripping the steering wheel in panic and calmly driving toward the destination you already decided upon.
Thought is the blueprint.
Emotion is the fuel.
Action is the construction crew.
Without action, the blueprint stays paper.
And here’s the part no one likes to talk about: sometimes the action is uncomfortable.
It might look like sending the pitch even though you’re afraid of rejection.
It might look like going to the gym when you said you wanted to feel stronger.
It might look like setting a boundary, even though your voice shakes.
It might look like learning a new skill instead of just imagining success.
Manifestation asks you to become the version of yourself who can hold the thing you desire.
If you want abundance, you might need to become organized with your money.
If you want a partnership, you might need to become emotionally available.
If you want recognition, you might need to risk being visible.
The universe responds to clarity — but it also responds to readiness, as proven through movement. Think of it this way: when you say you want something, you are sending out a signal. When you act in alignment with that desire, you amplify the signal. You show that you are serious. That you are available. That you are not just fantasizing — you are preparing.
“Energy moves where attention goes, yes.
But opportunity moves where action flows.”
This is a great mantra to write down and repeat each day as a reminder that you cannot simply sit idle and hope all the things you want show up on your doorstep.
I’ve seen people become disillusioned with manifestation because they thought it meant bypassing effort. They thought it meant bypassing growth. They thought that if it didn’t drop into their lap, they had somehow “failed” at thinking correctly.
The truth is, sometimes the manifestation is waiting on you.
- Waiting on you to send the email.
- Waiting on you to start the draft.
- Waiting on you to leave the house.
- Waiting on you to introduce yourself.
The most potent part of manifesting is not the wishing, it’s the willingness.
- Willingness to show up.
- Willingness to risk.
- Willingness to be seen trying.
- Willingness to build the bridge that your desire can walk across.
You don’t manifest by staring at the horizon. You manifest by walking toward it.
So keep your affirmations. Keep your vision boards. Keep your rituals. They matter. They align your inner world. But then move your feet.
