Temporary Office Obligation
There’s no worse feeling in the world when you realize that you aren’t special. Not the kind of special that gives you an edge over everyone else, but the kind of special people delude themselves into believing to avoid the reality that they are replaceable. That’s what I figured out I am. Replaceable. There are women (and maybe men) like me who feel insecure, anxious about dealing with a world you were never prepared for, and knowing that survival often means complacency. I’m not shocked by me feeling like I’m replaceable. I’m replaceable in my job (though I hope that isn’t the case) and in my mind. The only way I know I can’t be replaced is with my family and my relationships, but even then I feel like I don’t belong in the world. It’s as if the world wasn’t made for someone like me. It’s continuing and moving on without me.

I'm trying out places to post, including Vocal, looking for internships in the Fall all the while juggling my six-course school semester. This shit isn't easy and I doubt it's going to get any easier. Writers are forced to somehow create a reputable career online and somehow get slightly famous before signing with a publisher who will change your work to possibly something you don't agree with. So what about the in-between? How do go between being no one and someone within the world of writing? Are publishers really going to sign on a new writer with no reputation whatsoever? Of course not.

Jack of all trades..master of none.
If your career has been anything like mine, you probably started out at an entry level position in one department and over the years progressively moved upwards through different roles based on your interests, skillset and performance. This was great for me, the change kept me fresh and engaged and each of those roles provided invaluable insights into the workings of the company. In addition, the expertise I gained allowed me see the bigger picture on impacts of specific changes to the entirety of the value chain within the company.
