Sitting in Panera enjoying my Sip Club

👋🏾 It’s EDB, thats Erik DeSean Barrett, excited more than a fat kid with a house full of Christmas presents, in the kitchen. I just got hit with the best opportunity of my life. THIRTEEN bucks for the Panera Bread, Sip Club. That is unlimited drinks, most excitting for me, UNLIMITED.. as my momma calls it, SODA POP.

So here I am, tucked away in the corner of the PANERA, feeling all good about my life. I am focused, motived, severely high on cafine, and sugar, when this smacked me in the face. From the National Geographic, Dan Buettner, who is joined by Luisa Rivera, for the pics

EARTH’S LONGEST-LIVED PEOPLE DWELL IN FIVE ‘BLUE ZONES’—BUT THEIR HEALTHY WAYS OF EATING CAN BE FOUND IN PARTS OF AMERICA.

WHAT’S THE SECRET to gaining an extra 10 on the life clock? It’s never one thing. Rather, it’s a set of environmental factors that reinforce each other and that keep people reflexively doing the right things and avoiding the wrong things for long enough not to develop chronic diseases.

Dan discuss’ how for the past 20 years writing for National Geographic, he’s identified and studied the world’s longest-lived areas, which he calls blue zones. These places—

  • Okinawa, Japan
  • Sardinia, Italy
  • Greece; Nicoya
  • Costa Rica;
  • and the Seventh-day Adventist communities in Loma Linda, California

All of these have the most centenarians and the highest middle-age life expectancy. Why? Residents live purposeful lives in walkable settings that keep people naturally active and socially connected. And they eat a diet that’s largely plant-based whole foods.

Here’s what we discovered: There is another American diet, one that could actually increase your life expectancy by up to 10 years and, in some cases, reverse disease.

It’s not a fad diet invented by a South Beach doctor, a paleo diet marketer, or a social media influencer. This diet was developed by ordinary Americans, is widely affordable, is sustainable, and has a lower carbon footprint than a meat-heavy diet.

Most important, it is hearty and delicious, developed over centuries by fusing flavors from the Old and New Worlds in ingenious and uniquely American ways.

These ways are worth checking out! and maybe it will not only increase your health, physically, but change your moods psychologically.

Speaking of a Psychological break through.. right here in my home time of Norfolk. In 2020, Army lieutenant Caron Nazario was pepper sprayed, struck and handcuffed by police in rural Virginia, but never arrested. Lt. Caron, filed the federal lawsuit that is now being heard, highlighting fears of mistreatment among Black drivers and intensifying the scrutiny of the boundaries of reasonable, and legal, police conduct.

The trial is scheduled to begin Monday, January 9, in federal court, in Richmond. Caron will argue to a jury that he was assaulted and falsely imprisoned and that his vehicle was illegally searched. Police mistreatment of Black service members common even before Virginia case

  1. One was Sgt. Isaac Woodard, a uniformed World War II veteran who was headed home on a bus in 1946. He was removed and beaten by a white South Carolina police chief, leaving Woodard permanently blind.
  2. In 1962, Cpl. Roman Ducksworth was killed by police while riding a bus from Maryland to his home in Mississippi. The bus driver called a white police officer to awaken Ducksworth, who had fallen asleep, according to Jerry Mitchell, founder of the Mississippi Center for Investigative Reporting. The two struggled, and the officer shot and killed Ducksworth.
  3. Rossano Gerald, a Black Army sergeant who sued the Oklahoma Highway Patrol after he was pulled over with his young son and subjected to a protracted search in 1998, said Nazario’s traffic stop shows that nothing has changed.

Richard Brookshire, co-founder and executive director of the Black Veterans Project, said it’s important to remember that racism exists not only in the civilian world but also the military.

In February, Lloyd Austin, the nation’s first HNIC at the defense department, ordered military leaders to talk to troops about extremism in the ranks, after a number of former and current military members took part in the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot.

And last year, the Air Force released a report concluding the branch’s Black members are far more likely to be investigated, arrested, face disciplinary actions and be discharged for misconduct.

The same kind of racial bias in policing that shows up in our communities exists within the military,” Brookshire said. “That is just as important a conversation as whether they’re harassed by a civilian cop when they leave the base.

And finally today. Let‘s fight with the kids. New York City public schools banned ChatGPT from school devices and WiFi networks.

I don’t really know what this is, but maybe this will help. ChatGPT can answer fact-based questions and write essays and articles that are often difficult to discern from human-written content. And it will only get harder to tell the difference as the AI improves. Jenna Lyle, a spokesperson for New York City public schools, wrote in an email to NBC News.

While the tool may be able to provide quick and easy answers to questions, it does not build critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for academic and lifelong success.

No matter how schools handle AI bots, the genie is out of the bottle. Barring government regulation (unlikely in the near future, given the US Congress’ current trajectory), AI-powered answers, essays and art are here to stay. The next part, dealing with the potential societal fallout — including the automation of more and more jobs — will be where the real challenges begin. But until then, we plow on, to infinity, and Beyond.
