How to Write a Coming-of-Age Horror
It’s It, and it’s Stranger Things, Small Spaces, Ginger Snaps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, the Harry Potter series, Locke & Key, Nightbooks, Pan’s Labyrinth, Monster Squad, NOS4A2, or any of a hundred or so more. Can you think of any others? Remind me in the comments, please.

Leviathan
Sergey gazed out at the Kara Sea from the top floor of the lighthouse as dawn broke over the frigid waters. He was an old man. How many more sunrises would he see? Would he live to see any in a warmer, more pleasant part of the world? His retirement drew near. He welcomed it. At the same time, he felt the tundra was part of him: the long days alone, and the deep thoughts which resolved into a tranquil silence. He hoped he could take the tranquility of the tundra wherever he went, but wondered if the tumult of warmer climates and more populated areas would wear on him.

The River's Gift
The bark stung Ben’s hands as he dug furiously into soggy, clay-thick soil, the edges of his makeshift shovel crumbling away in rough splinters. Occasional raindrops were testing his patience with their staccato threats, each one a warning that the storm would be upon him soon.

Getting Over My Fear Of Chucky
Fear is a fickle thing, there are several types of minor fears, major fears, and unfathomable fears. What I saw in 2004 on the outside of the Regal Cinemas wall of posters was a moment I wouldn't forget because it was the second time in my life I saw something beyond my child's comprehension, but the first time I felt fear in my core.

20 Books That Terrified Me
Halloween is my favourite season not just because everything is scary and dark, but also because of the flavours. These include: ginger, pumpkin, dark chocolate, almond, apple and so many more. They are such delicious flavours and you can eat them warm. But in reality, everything is still scary and dark.

The Spooky Spectrum: Carrie White from Carrie (1976) (Part 1)
Welcome, my dear readers to The Spooky Spectrum, A Halloween Edition of Breaking the (Autistic) Code. I will be looking at Autistic-coded characters in Horror films during the month of October. It is important to note that I will definitely be discussing some disturbing topics in these essays so be cautious before continuing on. Spoilers will also be a thing as well. I am not a licensed medical professional and this series is not about diagnosing the character(s) with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This series is a personal examination of the film/TV show's plot, the character's traits and personality and how they relate to me as an Autistic woman. I would encourage my readers to seek out different perspectives on disability representation especially from BIPOC disabled creators who are often ignored in the disability discourse.

Halloween Memories and Epic Costumes Using Papier-mâché
One of my favorite memories from Halloween past involves making papier-mâché masks with my dad & brother when I was a kindergartner. Looking back, it’s really impressive that my father undertook such an ambitious project with his children who were only five and two years old. Instead of taking us to the store to buy some of those flimsy plastic cape and mask combos that passed as “costumes” for children in the mid-1970s, dad took on the daunting task of engaging his young children in a creative activity that spanned several days.

11 Fearsome Fright-Night Facts For Super-Fans!
Fans of 80's horror will no doubt have fond memories of picking up this horror vampire-gorefest at their local video store. Fright Night was a smash-hit blockbuster when it was released in 1985, earning a direct sequel and a couple of remakes along the way. It perfectly combines classic Bram Stoker vampire lore whilst adding in a fun 80's snapshot of teenage life. I mean, what's not to love about a boy next door finding out his neighbour is a blood-sucking vampire and having to fight back? Nothing that's what!

‘Prisoners of the Ghostland’ Movie Review
Set in a bizarre, post-apocalyptic pastiche of Eastern and Western culture, a famed bank robber known only as “Hero” (Nicolas Cage) is called upon by the sleazy Governor of Samurai Town (Bill Mosely) to rescue his missing adopted granddaughter Bernice (Sofia Boutella). He is strapped into a leather jumpsuit with explosive nodes attached to his neck, arms, and testicles, and informed that the devices will be detonated if he fails or refuses to comply. Now the Hero must venture into the desert expanse known as “the Ghostland” to retrieve Bernice within three days in order to win back his own life.
