The Bone Fairy
Everyone has heard of the ‘Tooth Fairy’. Whenever you would lose a tooth when you were younger and so you would place it under your pillow and eagerly await the dollar you would find under your pillow the next morning, only to be disappointed that when you found out that the Tooth Fairy gave your rich friend more money than you. But at least the tooth fairy works on the system of give and take. She takes your lost tooth and in exchange she gives you some money. The Bone Fairy doesn’t work like this, however. The Bone Fairy just takes.

Live at Five
Live at Five a Trail of Blood and Gore ... In the back part of the park. The part where there was no trail. The full moon shined through the trees in dusty shafts to an agonized figure below. Logan screamed out in pain as human features faded and wolf like ones became more pronounced. There was a canine snout, with wolf like ears, a tail and huge padded wolf feet, vicious claws and teeth. A howl in the park let all those foolish enough to be there after hours know, that tonight that might have been a bad idea.

Lesser No More
The crunching of small stones filled Ajax’s ears as his arm quivered to hold his lantern steady, his eyes struggling to pierce the wilderness around him. It was a cold night, his multiple layers of clothing providing no comfort from the biting winds. The men around him provided no comfort, already used to what this job entailed.

The Househelp
Mrs. Robert Jackson picked up a shiny, golden delicious apple. She frowned upon seeing a dark spot, set it back, and instead looked towards the granny smith. Mr. Robert Jackson preferred tart apples, but she intended to make a pie. Her preference for pies was a mix: ½ honey crisp and ¼ golden delicious, with her “secret” addition of pear. She smiled, pleased with her purpose. This was a gift to Robert for the locket he gave her: a heart, with a red hardened stone that filled the locket space. It was peculiar, yes, but Robert was allowed his odd taste in gifts.

For Your Mind, Body, and Soul
Was she smart like Father? Was she sweet like Mother? Or was she funny like Grandmother? What dreams filled her head before the alien Foreigner War between humans and neuralites? Finding her starving, dehydrated, and unconscious, I never had the pleasure of exploring the wonders of her personality before ending her misery. Now I wear her tattered, grungy white dress and her heart-shaped locket around my neck. She was younger than me, but her size and gender suited my needs. The tarnished outside of the golden heart trinket displays an engraved name. Inside bares a portrait of the girl, aged approximately four or five, a few years junior from the age in which I found her. She looks happy in the photo as she’s embraced by a loved one, presumably her mother.

The Crawlers
The screaming started. Jensen awoke with a start as it pierced through his subconscious, shattering the beautiful dream that had been his to indulge in as the moon shone brightly through his window. The screaming emanated from outside, and Jensen looked down. It was hard to see where it was coming from, shadows looming large in the central courtyard as an owl hooted nearby.

Leviathan
He set down the Medegan insulated pitcher in the passenger seat, the kind you get in the hospital that’s usually filled with crushed ice and a smidge of water because it was a few inches too big for the cup holder, the crazy accordion-style straw sticking out like an austere antenna. His ex-wife had stolen the pitcher for him from a hospital, despite saying it was weird he wanted it when he’d had his gallbladder removed. He sighed, taking in a long, calming pull of polluted and fart-tainted Toyota car seat air, and pushed the button to start the car. The sound of loose metal rattled as the car sprang to life and he was off.
