Hand of the Devil
Cold. The only thing she felt was the cold. Nothing else. The wind blew her hair around her. The snow seeped its way into her shoes. She wasn't expecting the need to wear anything other than her basic canvas shoes today. It was supposed to just be a normal Thursday. Classes at 9AM. Lunch with friends at 1PM. Dinner with her sister at 7PM at her sisters favorite restaurant. It was an easy day, a simple one. Yet here she was, stuck out in the cold, hiding behind a tree, listening for the soft crunch of snow under his footsteps.

Vampire; a Reflection of Time
Vampires have been around for centuries, and their allure is as strong as ever. They represent the dark side of humanity, and their seductive nature speaks to our hidden desires and fears. Why are vampires so popular? Some might say it's because they reflect our current anxieties and uncertainties. In a time of economic recession and political turmoil, people may be drawn to the dark, dangerous world of vampires.

Angel
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Lex scrunched her eyes to try and make out the full shape of the cabin through the small specks of snow falling in front of her. She knew this spot on the trail used to belong to a trail angel- a safe rest spot created for weary backpackers, but she was almost certain that this one had been cleared out for years. At least, that’s what she recalled from her reading in preparation for this leg of the trip.

The Haunted Grave
Crisp and cold was the best way to describe how the area felt right about now. Nyx and her friends stood in front of the entrance to the rumored haunted cemetery. “Well here we are everyone. So... who is gonna go in first?” One of the males, Aaron had spoke. Aaron had been talking to the group of friends about this cemetery for months. But even he seemed hesitant on entering the graveyard first, to much of a scaredy-cat of the unknown. The group of friends looked at each other and stood silent, not one wanting to speak up or move first. With a huff and kick of her combat boots Nyx finally spoke up and stated “I’ll go, figuring that no one else wants to go.” With that she turned heel towards the gate, once there she undid the latch and headed into the graveyard. The air seeming thick yet colder once she stepped past the threshold.

Stay Out of the Light
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The three of us had been coming to these woods since we were all seven years old, and every one of those five years since the climax of our camping trip had been sneaking off to this spooky cabin after the campfire and daring each other to get as close to it as we dared. But before tonight, it had always been dark, abandoned, and utterly creepy.

Glow
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. They had been walking for hours, feet blistered and bruised from tripping over rocks and brush. Beth noticed the sky was growing dark again, and couldn’t bear the thought of another sweaty and sleepless night outside with the bugs. No one expected them back for three more days… or was it two? “How long have we been out here?”, each wondered silently, failing to conceal their inner panic. Nights refused to cool, the air a warm and sticky breeding ground for the insects they swatted away futilely. Beth froze when she saw the light up ahead. Eric stopped too, touching her arm, “What is it?” “I see a cabin up ahead.” she replied, “There’s a light in the window upstairs.” Neither moved.
