12 Hours
They tell you when you start to prepare yourself to work for twelve hours. Most of us had come from jobs where we worked eight hours a day, nine to five, from Monday to Friday. I had been an office drone when I found this job in the paper, and it had been an easy choice to switch to a job that would nearly double my take-home pay. I had accrued my share of debt in college, and my student loans were high enough to keep me under the company's thumb until I retired. With the level of pay I was receiving from the prison, however, I could afford to be out of debt in a decade instead of thirty years.

My mind had gone to the worst situation possible before he could muster the strength to even get a word out.

The Arrival of the Welder Gheist
Today started out pretty weird and only got weirder. We'd been out of the woods for about a week, my legs finally feeling less wobbly, and I was set to putting everything back to rights. Grandpa had helped with the cleaning as much as he could, and now the house is back to its usual presentable state.

Alone . Top Story - August 2022.
My breath shuddered as I began to feel my nerves start to roll my stomach and cause my limbs to shake. “Not now, not now.” My breaths began to speed up in unnatural patterns. I started to pace, trying to focus on bringing my breath to a slow rhythm. Darkness began to creep into my vision as I slid my body to the ground, collapsing under the weight on the anxiety that was pushing on my chest. These attacks never come at convenient times and this was an inconvenient time. I was fighting for life, literally and this was not the moment for this.

Fever Dream
I looked at the ad, unsure if my fever-addled brain was reading it right. "Wanted: Someone to infect me with the Covid 19 virus. Must be verified as sick, have paperwork verifying illness no older than two days from today's date, and be willing to allow me to spend time near you. Will pay five hundred dollars for eight hours in your company, contraction of virus notwithstanding. Please email me at," and their email address followed.
