From Theatre to OTT: Why 'Bhool Chuk Maaf' Took the Digital Route

Did you know? There were fewer than 24 hours left for the film to release this Friday, and suddenly its release was cancelled.

When the trailer of the film came out, there was some atmosphere created because Maddock and his fans are very loyal.

A man who sleeps before marriage and wakes up back in time. Lives the same day again and again, and tries to change it. Time loop subject had the potential to be fascinating.

But I don't know what happened, the release date of the film was changed, and when the new release date is very close, the film is scared of coming out to the public.

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video or Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, both the films together earned 100 crores, then why was Rajkumar's next film taken so lightly?

Look, Maddock people have done the sensible thing and kept patriotism at the forefront, and have cancelled the theater release of their film. Par kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna.

It has been clearly asked that if the film was not to be released, then why was so much promotion done. While dancing and singing, you didn't remember what was happening in the country.

The thing is that Bhool Chuk Maaf did not get as much hype as is usually created for Maddock's new films, about which everyone thinks four times a day. Especially after giving all-time blockbusters like Stree 2 and Chhaava, there is maximum pressure on Maddock to break old records with every next film.

He has so much confidence in his cinema that by announcing the calendar for the next two years, he had captured all the festival dates. Everyone in Bollywood was a little scared of him.

And this is not rocket science. Bhool Chuk Maaf is not at all that kind of film for which people will leave everything and wait. They will book the first day's first show without thinking.

In the language of mathematics, in advanced booking, the film sold only around three thousand tickets in national chains, and a total of seven thousand tickets were sold on BookyMyShow in 24 hours.

Trade experts were saying that if the film had been released in theaters on Friday, then the opening day of the film would have hardly crossed two crores, due to which Maddock would have been insulted the most.

The lifetime collection was going to be around 20 crores. While the internet was saying that the budget of this film was up to 50 crores. But the real challenge was going to come from somewhere else.

Ajay Devgan's starrer Raid 2 is ruling the theatres. After 100 crores, now 150 crores is like a cakewalk. I don't know how, but the meter of the film is running at full speed even at such a time.

Yes, if seen directly, the future of Bhool Chuk Maaf in theaters was not very promising. It was almost certain that the film would flop.

In such a situation, the makers have decided to release the film directly on OTT, and we will not have to wait much. The world premiere of the film will be seen next week on 16 May.

This will not be the first time that a film will be released directly on OTT, but taking such a decision 86 hours in advance is not being digested by some people.

In a way, this is a strategic move — Hitting two targets with one arrow. He has saved his film from being a flop and preserved Maddock's success streak from breaking.

But the dangerous thing that will hurt some people is that cancelling the film on the pretext of such a situation does not seem right.

Bollywood is, anyway, infamous for converting emotions into money, and a song that fits perfectly in such a situation is Ganda Hai Par Dhanda Hai.

Things will move further in June when Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5 or Aamir Khan's comeback Sitare Zameen Par will be released in theatres.

Is this just the beginning? We are needlessly blaming Maddock for being clever. Whereas theatres are really going to be shut down in the coming times?

What is your opinion? Maddock has played a game to save his reputation. He has turned a flop film into a hit on OTT. Or else only sequels will work now. Bollywood has really bad habits, and big names will back out from a theatre release. Think about it and then tell me.
