As you may or may not heard the television show Scrubs in back for a new season, I had low hopes and low expectations as most shows that attempt this fail because of new characters or new way of showcasing the show. However, Scrubs is not like that. It’s almost as if you just stopped watching and continued years later. The quirky humour with the images in JD’s head are all still there. The fast-paced dialogue, sarcastic wit, and daydream cutaways remain stylistic trademarks, and familiar faces like J.D. and Turk help maintain continuity. Even with new interns and a slightly shifted focus, the newer season keeps the original show’s themes of growth, mentorship, and the messy humanity of working in a hospital setting. I love how all the actors and actresses have remained the same: they only have new interns, which I believe was needed to ensure the show's continuity.

However, it was received well by fans such as myself because who doesn't love sarcastic humour, funny little quirks similar to New Girl. What do the critics say so far? Many critics praised how it recaptures the spirit and chemistry of the original, balancing nostalgia with fresh storytelling and heartfelt humour. Reviewers from outlets like The A.V. Club, RogerEbert.com, and TVLine commend the ensemble’s camaraderie and the way the revival feels like a genuine continuation of the series’ heart, not just a rehash. Some praise its warmth, optimism, and the blend of old and new elements, describing it as one of the better TV revivals in recent years. I could not agree more, it stays true to the storyline and true to the humour, a revival that is actually received well is a rare find. So if you are a fan and were hesitant by how much they have changed the show, they really have not. JD is still the same funny, witty character, and all of the other lovable characters are back with the same actors.

However, some critics believe that this type of fun humour is actually a little outdated, which is fair to say, but this is a sense of humour that reminds me of "the good old days". where humour from Friends, Seinfeld and little but of New Girl shine through, with awkward encounters and fun beloved characters make the show so much fun. Oddly enough, critics tend to love this new season compared to season 9 (which don't sue me, but I never came around to seeing it).

One of the most powerful aspects of Scrubs is how honestly it portrays burnout in medicine. Beneath the fast-paced jokes and absurd daydream sequences, the show repeatedly reveals the emotional toll that working in a hospital takes on young doctors. Long hours, constant life-or-death decisions, and the pressure to appear confident even when feeling overwhelmed slowly wear down characters like J.D., Turk, and Elliot. The series doesn’t glamorize medicine; instead, it shows exhaustion, self-doubt, and the quiet guilt that comes when a patient doesn’t survive. What makes Scrubs stand out is that it uses humour as a coping mechanism—both for the characters and the audience—highlighting how laughter can coexist with grief. The mentorship between senior doctors and interns also reflects how burnout can either harden someone, like Dr. Cox at times, or push them toward compassion and growth. By balancing comedy with raw emotional moments, the show explores burnout not as weakness, but as a deeply human response to an incredibly demanding profession. That reminds me of St. Denis Hospital, which is a great show as well. I have experienced burnout myself in my workplace of healthcare. I was an administrative assistant, but I still felt that, and the show made it feel real and that it is okay if we burn out, and we can sometimes get through it with a friend or by taking time off and really reflecting on what matters most to you. Scrubs focuses on friendships that are real and problems that are real, but with a fun sense of humour. Anyways, I recommend that you watch it!
