My Review of "Game of Thrones: Season 3"
Oh my goodness what a season!! Red wedding... need I say more?

Game of Thrones: Season 3 aired back in 2013. I can't believe it's been that long ago. Season 2 ended with such a bang. I forgot how they raised the bar with season 3. There's so much that happens. The way they played around with the power dynamics of all the characters and even their conflicting interactions with one another it was stupendous!
The season kicked off right after the events of season 2. Kings Landing was miraculously saved by the Tywin Lannister, the Lannister patriarch. Tyrion is recovering from his war wounds but no one rewards him for holding the fort. I really felt bad for Tyrion especially in this season.
They go into depth as to how they treat him. He's high born but yet he's laughed at by pretty much everyone. The worst thing is that no one would be alive if it wasn't for his heroic efforts in the big battle with Stannis. They nearly lost the war if it wasn't for Tyrion and yet he gets no respect because of the way he looks.
Still Tyrion loves his family and loves being a civil servant for Kings Landing. This brings up a ton of drama for him as his love interest is starting to get fed up with having to hide who she is. Through a series of circumstances he's also forced to wed Sansa Stark in this season too. That's an odd coupling but it actually kind of works.
On the other side of Westeros we have all the drama happening in the North with the White Walkers, Jon Snow's espionage drama with the Wildlings and Bran discovering his newfound superpower abilities. It's all culminating and you just feel how big this is going to get. I love how they keep brewing the dangers of the White Walkers and how everyone in Westeros is distracted by their fight for the iron throne.
Then on the other end of the world we have Daenarys Targaryen. Her army is rapidly getting bigger along with her influence. She's just getting devoted followers by freeing slaves and proving her power and abilities. No longer is she getting by with her beauty. Now she's actually using her cunning and wits to beat out her opponents. Beauty along with brains is a deadly combination.
There's countless side stories along with this season but the biggest episode is episode 9 with the red wedding. It's titled "The Rains of Castamere". This whole episode has been foreshadowed and teased throughout the season and when the events of the episode happen I was still devastated. No matter how many times you've seen this it still hits you like a ton of bricks. This is probably one of the best TV episodes I've ever seen because of the shock, build up, and intensity.
I understand you have to see all the previous episodes to really gain the full impact of this episode but it is so well worth it. This episode will have you asking what's next after this? Everything is starting to go downhill for Rob Stark and this is probably rock bottom. The biggest Achilles heel for the Starks is their heart. They follow their heart no matter what the consequences.
You see this is the entire opposite of Tywin Lannister and we see where he ended up by the end of this season. He sends the crazed king to go to bed without his supper on his demand. You really see this powershift in this season and it is amazing.
Overall, I was dumbfounded. Season two was pretty amazing but this season just goes to that next level! How can they top themselves yet again? I really forgot how great this series really was until I started rewatching all of them. I have to give this season a 9 out of 10. This is one of the pinnacle moments for this TV series.
