The Conundrum of Tarkov’s “Band-Aid Fix Mentality”
Tarkov has gone through many different lives over the course of its development. From where it is now to where it began, it might as well be a completely different game. Visually, mechanically, and of course, how the game has been balanced overtime. Some changes were made for the better, and a general positive to the experience, while others have had some lasting negative consequences that are still prevalent. And what has happened unfortunately, is that the community has dubbed these kinds of reactive adjustments to Tarkov, “Band-Aid” fixes. Things that temporarily solve the problem that has surfaced, but don’t consider that Tarkov is such a complex game with tons of tiny intricacies, that these changes become a larger problem down the line. Essentially, Tarkov and BSG have been kicking the can down the road, as it is aptly said; problems they tried to solve many years ago, have stuck around; rearing their ugly heads when we least want them to. And it is frustrating to see this happen. But this conversation goes deeper than just identifying the problems or brainstorming ways to potentially remedy them. We need to understand why they happened in the first place. Look at some examples of Band-aid fixes and see what happened to them in the modern Tarkov we currently have. And while we certainly can come up with some alternative solutions to these problems, it ultimately is on BSG to fix these. And who knows if that is ever going to happen. Tarkov's Wipes have Arcs and they Vary in Enjoyability
Throughout a cycle of Tarkov once it wipes, you will notice that Tarkov has kind of these little arch's that players will experience as they play and progress through the game. We can be simple and normally just say early, mid, and end game for Tarkov. But there is room for a little more nuance with what this means, where you will spend your time, and the kind of gear you will be running. And we can even attach level ranges to each of these arches, so you have an idea of where you are at in the game. Also knowing which arch’s in Tarkov are more enjoyable to play when compared to each other. Because this game has plenty of highs and lows when going throughout an entire wipe cycle. From start to finish, there will be points that make you excited to get quests done, level up and improve what is available to use from the traders as well as just in your stash. And there will be moments, maps, and specific quests that no matter what you do will feel impossible to complete. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. So, let’s go over the different stages, or arches of Tarkov’s progression and get into some of the nuance as to why people may or may not enjoy them. Tarkov is a Horror Game.
What was the last horror game you played? In recent memory there haven’t been any high-profile horror games that have been released, but the indie scene always has tons of games that are meant to give you a fright. But I can say for myself personally, that the last real horror game that I have played would be Escape From Tarkov. Yes, I know that sounds silly, but there is actual merit to this statement. Tarkov is an unconventional horror game; there are plenty of opportunities for this game to catch you completely off guard. Whether it’s a random ricochet to the helmet, a scav yelling at you when you turn a corner, or Tagilla chasing across Factory with his hammer and manic cackling, there are tons of ways Tarkov is out to get you. So, I thought it would be fun to go over some of the highlights this game offers that can unintentionally be conceived as horror elements in an immersive first perron shooter game. Now, some people might still not think Tarkov is a horror game or have any elements that could scare you. And hopefully, by the end of this, your perspective on the matter might change. Is Tarkov Becoming TOO Big for PCs?
This idea isn’t specific to just Escape From Tarkov, but it’s something I’ve wanted to talk about for a while being in the space of this game, seeing it grow and become more of what the developers want, and at the same time, seeing how as the game gets bigger, what that looks and more importantly feels like on our hardware. Anyone who has played this game for any length of time knows that Tarkov is a demanding game on your PC. Knowing from experience, for years I played this game on a 1070 graphics card, with only 16GB of RAM. And while the card was okay at getting the job done; the game still looked pretty and held up in the FPS department, the RAM is where things got rough. Always spawning late, especially on scav runs; it eventually got to the point where it wasn’t sustainable anymore. Plus, that PC just died after about 5 years, so it had a good run. Now, with a 3060, and 32GB of RAM, you’d think the game would be exponentially more enjoyable to play. But unfortunately, it’s not. Of course, there have been moments in Tarkov’s lifespan where the game was fairly optimized for what we are normally used too. And on the new PC it felt incredible. So, while this wipe was much more stable and had way less game breaking bugs and glitches compared to the previous wipe earlier this year, I can say for sure that the performance has taken a massive nosedive. Which begs the question: is Tarkov becoming too much to handle for PCs?

Tarkov's Spawns are Terrible; Here's Why
The most important part of any Tarkov raid is when you first load in. Those initial 30 seconds are vital to the potential success of your overall raiding experience. It’s a mad dash to the important parts of the map, and everyone is ready for war. But what makes this so problematic, are the spawns across most of the maps in the game. Each one has their own set of problems, and the map with the worst spawns is definitely up for debate. It would depend on who you ask and the maps they not only spend the most time playing, but whichever ones make them feel the most comfortable. As a mainly Customs player after I hit max traders, I enjoy the map the most, but I don’t think it has the worst spawns. So, I thought today it would be fun to go over some of the maps with notoriously awful spawns and why it’s the case.
