Why Our Kids Should Be Learning Te Reo
If you’re anything like me, you learned a little reo Māori at primary school; basic things like greetings, days of the week, months of the year, and colours. Yet, because you never used these terms, you only remember some of the greetings and the first few colours mentioned in the song ‘Ma is White.’ You’ve also picked up a smattering of other terms that are commonly used such as aroha, mana, whānau, iwi, taonga.

THE MYTH OF RACE: RELIGION, SCIENCE, AND RACIAL SEPARATISTS
A person’s perceived racial identity can be a blessing or a curse. In the United States race has always been an important subject, which has carried with it oppression and segregation. This history began with the encampment and genocide of the Native Americans by the European explorers, the enslavement of Africans in the New World, the recent history of the strong segregation of the Jim Crow laws in Southern states, and the long and hard fight for racial integration. Racial hatred still thrives today in the United States and throughout the world, sometimes in the light, and sometimes in the shadows. Separatist groups, using both faulty science and twisted religion, try to separate the human race into sections and define each race into superior and inferior species. But what really is race?

Who do we truly come from?
So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; and the rib which the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. (Genesis 2:21-22)

Nature of Destruction
The Earth is 4.5 billion years old (assuming you hold true to science and believe in the evolution of the cosmos), and, if stretched out over a mile, then the 6,000 years of modern human history would encompass less than one-eighth of the final inch. Yet, in those six millennia, the human race has accomplished wonders unlike anything the world has ever seen… but it’s also committed acts so heinous that it makes us wonder if we truly are a benefit to this planet that we call home. How is it then, in all of the millions and billions of years of Earth’s existence, that a species of animal has arisen to cause so much strife and despair in the face of so much wonderment and ingenuity? Why are humans such a dichotomy of good and evil, of love and hate, of the simple and the complex?
