TIME TRAVEL: The RACE IS ON WITH ELON!
As you can imagine, I was rather surprised to learn that one of the Elon Musk fanboy groups, in this case, Elon Musk Evolution, issued a veiled challenge to me on Youtube. Now, I already have a challenge in the works - that I'll get time travel to the past to work in order to evacuate people from here to the distant past in an operation we call Earth:12KB4 before Elon can get people to the planet Mars. I expect that we'll be able to achieve the required breakthrough next year. Recently, Musk announced he was delaying a SpaceX launch to Mars back to 2029. I have Elon in a strategic "check" because as long as I have a breakthrough before 2029, he loses and he can't deny our competition because that would mean he's not going try to get Mars. This proves that he is not focused on the threats to the future that he claimed to be.

(To slightly misquote Stephen King's seminal nonfiction study of horror, Danse Macabre, Harryhausen use to "pal around with a guy named Ray Bradbury" when he was a kid.")

The new fuel to come from Saudi Arabia

The new use for abandoned oil rigs
he grey steel girders of Platform Holly rise 235ft (72m) above the waters of the Pacific Ocean, just a couple of miles off the Santa Barbara coast. Above the water, this decommissioned oil rig is dull and lifeless, but the view below the surface is very different. Beneath the waves, colourful fish, crabs, starfish and mussels congregate on the huge steel pylons, which stretch for more than 400ft (120m) to the ocean floor.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
The Day the Earth Stood Still is an exemplary example of Cold War jitters. Made in 1951, based on the story "Farewell to the Master" (the particulars of which I can remember very little about at this point), it begins with a glowing "flying saucer" with a classic look, landing on the Washington Mall. A ramp cooly slides from the surface, as the military and curious onlookers surround the alien craft. A being in a weird silver suit and a helmet covering its face points a weird object with a springy antenna at the crowd, but is promptly shot by some Army grunt and falls to the ground. His robot, Gort, a hulking mass of Fifties sci-fi aluminum comes to life, and strides like Karloff's Creature down the ramp. A visor slides back, and a ray beam melts the grunts' rifles.

What would happen if we stopped using plastic?
Of the 8,300 million tonnes of virgin plastic produced up to the end of 2015, 6,300 million tonnes has been discarded. Most of that plastic waste is still with us, entombed in landfills or polluting the environment. Microplastics have been found in Antarctic sea ice, in the guts of animals that live in the deepest ocean trenches, and in drinking water around the world. In fact, plastic waste is now so widespread that researchers have suggested it could be used as a geological indicator of the Anthropocene.
