Where Is She...?

A series for this month of October of suspense. Enjoy!

I woke up with a gasp. My head is throbbing, only to painfully increase with the thumping of my heart. All around me, the room is trashed; shattered glass spread across the floor, the picture frames are smashed, the curtains are torn, and the furniture is knocked over. What happened? I dont remember. Thunder rumbled in the distance and the windows are gently rattling with rain. I raise myself from the floor ever so slowly, my body aching all over.

I look at my arms and I see bloody marks. Are they scratches? Knife cuts? It hurts to think at this moment. God, I need something to kill this pain. I walk with a limp to the bathroom as my left leg hurts upon each step. I nearly jumped as I flipped the switch and the light bulb exploded. I had to feel my way around for the mirror and open it. Out of concern, I had to limp to the window where I have some bit of light from the street outside so I could see the label.

I took two capsules before I sat on the floor and wait for them to kick in. As I waited, I closed my eyes and focused on trying to remember. All I had were glimpses of my past. I remember walking into the house… there was a woman with me… the lights flickered as there was some sort of struggle. The last thing I remembered before blacking out was the woman screaming. I snapped upon the scream but it's just in my head.

I stood up, feeling a bit better from the headache but my leg still hurts but not as bad as before. I had to limp out of the bathroom to find a flashlight or anything that's not broken. I found a lamp still plugged in and I raised it up before turning the knob. The light came on and my heart stopped. There were blood all over the floor, some on the curtains, and some on the furniture. Oh god… what happened? Why can't I remember? I look down to my leg and I find one part of some detachable scissors stabbed in my leg. It must have been in there for some time. I can't find a phone anywhere to call the police. I need to take care of this leg myself. I tore some nearby sheets as I sat in a chair and pulled the scissor piece out of my leg. It hurt and blood came out but I tied the sheets very tight to stop the bleeding. I need to go to the hospital but where is she? Where is the woman? I looked around for signs of her as I remained seated. All I found was a black heel nearby. When I looked at the smashed blood-stained photos, I noticed myself in the photo and the woman by my side. We were smiling and holding each other.

She must be my wife. I need to find her. Someone took her! Someone must've left some sort of ransom note for me. Forget the pain; I need to find her. I painfully rose to my feet and searched about for a note, a clue, anything that can help me find her. Wait… I found something… a receipt! It's to the state fair. Of course! I must go there. She must be there. I took the photo out of the frame so I can ask anyone there if they've seen her. I need to cover this bandage so I don't arouse suspicion. I grabbed my duster and closed it tightly to hide my leg before I went out the door.

I will find her… I must find her…
