New Bonds Mentioned.

Successors to Daniel Craig?

Bond and Cats?

Daniel Craig became the face of James Bond and made the brand Bond his own. Craig's bond was a hybrid. A mixture of the roughty toughty Sean Connery and the gentlemanly Roger Moore. The Bond films showed Craig's Bond evolving as he fought Spectre, even fighting his own MI6, becoming a father and giving his life for the world in the final instalment.

So, how can a new Bond come about if the story is to continue from where Bond sacrificed his life? We know that when the last movie ended, Bond had a daughter. So, are we to continue with a Jane Bond? As much as many would like to see a female 007, it doesn't fit with the Ian Fleming character. All the frontrunners that have recently been announced are British, white, and male as far as I can make out.

James Elordi, Tom Holland, and Harris Dickinson are now the frontrunners. Henry Cavill might be too old, and Idris Elba, at 52, is certainly too old now. The idea of a black Bond, like a female Bond, while I am all for equality, does not fit with the Ian Fleming Bondverse. The creators of Bond are looking for a younger Bond. The age they are looking for is 30, or so it seems. And while Bond's character has always been played by a mature man, a younger actor like Tom Holland, who played Spider-Man, might give the character longevity. Playing Bond is draining and energetic, even when he is wining and dining women. Even Daniel Craig admitted that as he got older, stunts got harder. A younger character playing Bond would come with more stamina. Which would fit the energetic lifestyle of Fleming's character? Many are used to seeing a mature Bond, but a younger Bond is relevant too, for the reasons I mentioned.

Bond is due for a major reboot, and expect changes. What those changes will be, we will have to wait and see. MGM is now owned by Amazon, so how that takeover influences the franchise going forward, we await to see.

There is a new director in town for the Bondverse, too. Denis Villeneuve is known for Blade Runner 2029, Dune, and Sicario. Villeneuve has a reputation for being a stunning, psychologically layered Director. So what he does with Bond and how much leeway he will have in creating Bond will remain to be seen.

Might we see a veggie or vegan Bond? Might we see a married Bond with kids and domestic drama intermingling with his life as a spy? Might we see a tea total Bond? Might we see a Bond loyal to his wife, being a good father, a more humble Bond? But still retaining the suave action figure we have all become used to? A modern Bond for the 21st century? And would this even work, especially among Bond purists?

Or will this new Bond outing, scheduled for 2028, be a continuation of the old Bond? The womanising, Vodka Martini shaken not stirred agent dressed in his trademark tuxedo and bow tie? It's quite possible this will be the Bond going forward, but with modern caveats, whatever those caveats are?

Daniel Craig, as with many past Bonds, will be a hard act to follow. If this is a total reboot, this suggests the old storyline is dead. Starting afresh as if Daniel Craig's Bond and the storylines associated with him never existed.

Finally, everyone has their favourite Bonds. While many say Sean Connery, especially the females among us, I have two Roger Moore and Daniel Craig. Any actor taking on the mantle of Bond will have to hit the ground running for purist fans and those who have yet to buy into the Bondverse.
