Wildlife Overpasses

A Stepping Stone For Preserving Life

By Mel E. FurnishPublished 2 months ago 3 min read

“Better keep an eye out for the deer.”

“They’re out pretty thick tonight.”

For generations, we have known since growing up that it can be more dangerous to drive because of the wildlife, so in what ways can we help reduce those high-risk chances and help save countless lives of humans and animals?

Numerous countries have successfully implemented wildlife crossings that have resulted in a mass preservation of human and animal life.

Here are some articles covering the wildlife overpasses and how they have helped significantly.

The statistics speak for themselves that these nature-friendly structures have helped save countless lives across the world, so why isn’t this being made a higher priority everywhere? Our ecosystems need us and we need them. Contrary to what some believe, we need them healthy and thriving way more than they need us. Everything plays a part and contributes to the cycle of life, but we have damaged that cycle with overkill.

Unfortunately, not too long ago, I read another story about an accident that took the life of someone’s daughter, someone’s cousin, someone’s loving mom. Her name is Cheyenne Sears, and she had just delivered beautiful twins only a week prior to this tragedy.

“Local police in Indiana said that the incident occurred on Oct. 25, on State Road 67 when a vehicle struck a deer, which flew over and hit another vehicle, which resulted in a fatality.”

There are too many stories of innocent people dying from something that can be improved for all.

I know I am not the only person who is sick of seeing animals dead on the side of the road.

If we move closer and closer toward a “solarpunk” style, we could significantly alter a lot of the negative aspects of our daily lives.

- Solar panels over parking lots - not solar farms - using only “dead space” for the panels.

- Stop using synthetics, use more natural materials.

- Less chemicals in all lawns - stop brainwashing people to poison themselves and their families - grow gardens - help the pollinators (all of them - not just the bees!)

Our mass storms changing areas completely most likely is a part of a “cause and effect” dynamic from our environments being so heavily impacted by our society’s “limitless demands” that are leaving our shared home vulnerable, which in time will continue to increase our vulnerability.

We have ridiculously influenced the world’s balance - so it is on us to fix it and adjust it accordingly where we can.

We have, over and over again, displaced many animals from their homes for generations - causing ecosystems to be deteriorating or completely destroyed.

A society going “solarpunk” wouldn’t entirely fix these issues, but it would be somewhere we could start to work on fixing the negligence of “elites” and “leeches” over generations.

Solarpunk designs allow for various species to more easily adapt and thrive among us so we can continue using our incredible inventions that free up our time to pursue new adventures, new accomplishments, new opportunities, new inventions, etc..

The only way we can get started is if we all do our small part and keep in mind that a chain reaction can be all it takes to spread prosperity back into our communities.

“Pay It Forward” with our neighbors (near and far), working the land with pride, and sharing knowledge of our experiences to keep us all moving forward.

All around growth is only achievable if there is a willingness to work - which can only be fueled by encouraging the dreamers and not rewarding the doubters. Good work ethic and creativity is most effective when it is allowed to thrive without being held back by the lazy and complacent or the bitter and destructive.
