Little Orphan Ursus
Hello, my name is Ursus, and I am a young Black Bear living in Florida’s Ocala National Forest. I recently left my mother after almost two years of training, and I’m on a big adventure! I have been wandering and foraging my way through the woods, and there is just so much delicious food to eat! There’s a multitude of plants and fruits from Palmetto berries, pond apples, sawgrass, cabbage palm, and sassafrass to wild coffee, grapes, and raspberries. There’s also a plethora of insects(Although I prefer berries!) such as ants, bees, wasps, grasshoppers, and centipedes. (That old myth about bears and honey stemmed from the fact that we love bee grubs, and that is what we are after if you see us near a hive.) I also see a lot of small animals, like turtles, snakes, opossum, and crayfish which I would only eat if I couldn’t find enough of my favorites. Needless to say, the Florida scrub is abundant with bear food(what is called “species-appropriate” food), and I have no desire for yours. The only reason a bear would ever start craving human edibles is if a human starts feeding us. When you leave out all kinds of goodies(Things like cat food, dog food, bird seed, the compost pile, pizza, bbq, etc.) in nice little bowls and bins for us, we can’t resist! What we don’t understand is why you would be so kind as to leave food for us, then get angry when we keep coming back for more? Obviously, different species just don’t get each other. Sometimes, these misunderstandings can lead to tragedy.

My day follows a routine as constant as the tracks my feet have worn in the grass; that's part of life on the farm. Taking care of animals requires patience, diligence, and attention to detail, but you find yourself with a lot of time for idle thoughts. Lately, I have been thinking about the different qualities of visible light. The sun is 91.875 million miles away from our peculiar little planet. The speed of light in a vacuum is 299,792,458 metres per second exactly. This is one of the fundamental constants of nature, as stable as the Earth's orbit and a staple of physics. Eight minutes after a photon is emitted from the sun, it hits home. And from there, it changes everything it touches.

The Logistics
As many reasons as there are to kill yourself, there are just as many reasons to fake your own death. The reason is the easiest part. Pick one. Losing your job, losing your lover, losing the cap to the toothpaste; they’re all extremely valid reasons to disappear. The why isn't the hard part, the hard part is the where, when, and how. Truly, planning how to kill yourself is certainly more difficult than actually killing yourself. Whether you’re preparing for a wedding or a suicide; the logistics will always be the death of you.

A new study shows that implementing an eight-step system to change the system could reduce plastic pollution by 80% and save the government $ 70 billion at a current value between 2021 and 204014, enough to make the necessary changes. The report found that real government and industry commitments could reduce the price of plastic at sea by 7% by 2040. It has implemented a new economic model that measures the potential amount of plastic in the ocean under six conditions.

Emotional hiking experience.
From my hike on Sunday Nov 7 at Wright county trail. The birds are chirping as I crept along slowly. Stalking my imaginary prey this fine fall morning. The air has a bit of a bite and the clouds are dripping now. The smell of the forest lingers in my nostrils as I joyously walk and am amazed.
