Pearl swung around the second my feet touched the kitchen tile and began the introductions to our new somebody hired for help. - "Well 'morning sleepy head, I got someone who wants to meet you!"- Yeah right, she's dying to meet me, the one who will give her some quick news, I am in need of no mindin' and I don't plan on listening to a dang word you say!-

Old Enough
As soon as Pearl's taxi pulled up and her sensible black shoes touched the sidewalk I was ready to head out the back door to meet my best friend Clara, that is until I hear an unfamiliar voice in the front hallway. Curiosity is my worst enemy and by now I should have learned something, but as Clara says, "UH-Parent-LEE not". I peek around the doorway and see Pearl has another woman with her: Is this the mean lady who takes kids from unfit homes? It's gotta be. I best wake him as he is likely to be snoring away in his boxers or worse, naked!

Old Enough
How can one night change a kid like me, or anyone for that matter? I don't know the answers but I do know I grew up a whole lot after sleeping over in what felt like another world entirely different than my own. Part of me wants to not think so much, to just be a kid who plays checkers, pretends to be a spy or astronaut and can forget all about the troubles this dumb ole world has. Something tells me those kind of days are soon over.

Old Enough
My best friend and her cousins know the time is coming for me to say goodbye, for now at least, when we see a new yellow taxi cab pull up and Paw-Paw stands up and waves to the driver. What a spectacle for the whole darn world, my big white Paw-Paw, post hernia procedure standing next to our small chestnut colored Pearl; heck, they even hugged.
