At first, even Elizabeth was stunned by what happened. Lucas held the girl down, and she drank from the flask filled with holy water as he chanted in Latin. The girl’s little body went into convulsions. A monstrous scream escaped her, and like Elizabeth, a black, viscous fluid erupted from her.

Something Wicked . Top Story - October 2023.
“Ostend te,” I whisper. The wall has vanished and in its place, a winding stairway appears. Faint light lines the walls as candles flicker. Many witches stand around it shuffling their feet, hands raised toward the flames to keep them warm. No one spoke. I didn’t dare glance toward Dierck or the other Resistance members from our town. Even when the Council isn’t watching, any number of witches would sometimes report on their own coven, just to gain favor with the Council. When everyone has arrived, each coven gathered in a circle. Twelve witches plus the High Sorceress, or Sorcerer in the case of Dierck’s coven, at the head.

However, the power of creative storytelling can elevate one to the status of a fabulist, and with unwavering dedication, even transcend into the realm of art – what we call fiction.

I gasped, and looked at him. “Was that a Princess Bride reference?” I asked, pulling away to look at him properly. He smiled, and winked at me, I shook my head smiling. “You’re something else.” I said, chuckling lightly. “So are you.” He shot back. “Do you want your sub toasted?” He asked, and I nodded. “Yes please!” I chirped, he nodded. “Why don't you go grab a table for us? I'll order.” He said, quickly pressing his lips into my hair. I chuckled, gently pushing him.
