America Wanted to Kill Us: A Cry Out from a Black Family
America is known as the land of opportunity and a place where some can experience what is called the American Dream. However, for people that look like me, those descriptions don’t quite resonate with our lived experiences in the place we once called home.

From Hope To Heartache
When I was just 13, my world began to unravel. My mom fell seriously ill and lost her job. At the time, I was in the 10th grade, navigating the challenges of high school. My older sister took over my mom's job, trying to keep us afloat, while I continued attending school, grappling with the growing unease at home. The following year, our worst fears were confirmed: my mom was diagnosed with cancer. It was a devastating blow. That year turned into a relentless nightmare. Mom's condition worsened rapidly. She was in and out of the hospital, each visit marking a new decline in her health. Her hair fell out, her weight plummeted, and her skin grew increasingly pale, to the point where she started resembling a ghost of her former self.By July of that year, we lost her. Her passing marked the beginning of a new kind of torment for me, one that felt like living in hell.To be continued...

Linus
LINUS June 4, 2023 Today I woke up from a sleep and the sun was on my face and I remembered I had a new dream. It was the same but different from other dreams because I was running really fast like I always do but it was different because I felt really light and also because I talked to a rabbit creature and rabbit creature gave me a message and this is new. I cannot tell you what it is just yet because it was a secret, and even though it was a dream secret I know I need to keep it a secret in awake time too. Also I called out a name- a name is what you call something- like my name is Linus like I told you, and also Bubba and Bubs in case you forgot. But I called out Charlie and that is weird because I don’t know a Charlie but sometimes Mom says, “Linus, like from Charlie Brown” so it must be that. Also she says, “He carries around a blue blanket like Linus from Charlie Brown, and I didn’t even train him to do that, it is so perfect!” I want to tell her that I carry a blue blanket because she only gets me blue ones but she seems so pleased by it so I wouldn’t correct her even if I could. That is how much I love Mom.

Family
**A New Beginning** It was a crisp autumn morning when the Johnson family finally moved into their new home. After months of planning, packing, and a few heated arguments, the day had arrived. The old farmhouse stood proudly at the edge of a small town, its white paint slightly weathered but charming nonetheless. Emily and David Johnson, along with their two children, Sarah and Jake, were ready to start a new chapter of their lives.

To the ones healing their darkest fragments
To the ones healing their darkest fragments Today I choose not to poetically quote the light that we need to embrace in order to see the best parts of ourselves. I do not wish to romanticise the goodness present in life. Today I want to talk about the darkness of the existence we forge our essence in—the dreariest moments of our soul that cause misery. The loneliness that mitigates the sanguinity we hold for a better tomorrow I am a writer, and we are often accused of overexemplifying the beauty of life and light. But light can only exist if we rotate and oscillate between shades of grey, between the darkness and the looming shadows that hollow us from inside.
