It started by wolves scavenging for left over scraps of food near human camps, leading to a symbiotic relationship between humans which provided a reliable food source for the wolves and the wolves providing protection and hunting help for the humans. This relationship led to the wolves evolving into dogs which became entirely reliant on humans for everything.
