The songs that built me.
In this picture, I see blinding spotlights. I imagine the applause I always seem to forget from being caught up in the last three minutes. I feel my racing heart, no longer needing to stay in a calm and collected beat to the song I'd been singing. I see someone who's favourite place to perform isn't before the eyes of hundreds of people (no matter how much she loves it)... but in the seat of her parents car where her love and passion for music began.

"Read All About it"
I sat organizing the space in my room, when the song played. I had just moved back into my mom’s house, after one of the most difficult phases in my life, and I needed clarity. The #Metoo movement was not really a thing yet, and though I had the support of friends and family members, things still weren’t easy. I felt I’d lost my voice, my sense of truly being. The bubbly prank-playing jokester was no longer present. She had been stolen away, making an exit-stage left, with no sign of ever returning.

Guava Island. Top Story - February 2020.
Guava Island: Comedy/Drama/Music (2019) A top secret and one of my favorite surprises of spring going into summer 2019. Directed by Hiro Murai (his feature directorial debut) with a screenplay by Stephen Glover from a story by Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, Ibra Ake, Jamal Olori and Fam Udeorji. It stars Donald Glover and Rihanna in the lead roles of Deni and Kofi. First shown as a really good surprise before headlining performance at the Coachella Festival on April 11, 2019. Which has and some unreleased songs I’m sure from an Album this is tied to were futuristic next level high energy with some 808’s in there songs was performed for Coachella only with the infectious r&b song Saturday shines through in the movie. It was then released on April 13, 2019, by Amazon Studios through Amazon Prime Video for anyone to watch without a subscription for 18 hours before being available to Prime subscribers only. In the final hour of the 18 hours, the film was streamed on the Coachella YouTube page. Donald Glover was co-headlining at the event as Childish Gambino. I can’t stress enough that this is not mainly and overall just a musical film, just because it can be considered in that genre doesn’t automatically make this a musical. Its not even that it only has three main impactful artistic performances, summertime magic, this is America, and Saturday to end the film in musical performances. Lastly containing background music all performed and featured by Childish Gambino. As some to believe as conspiracy theory’s and statements that Donald Glover eluded he’s retiring as a musical artist in the theory’s are that this film is showcasing and provoking that he’s killing of the Childish Gambino artist persona of his music career who is basically the lead character Deni. Nonetheless if this is the end with no more music from Childish Gambino than this maybe considered a final cut of songs from a final album. Which hasn’t been or maybe never will be released as well.

Gypsy
. I overheard "Gypsy" by the infamous group Fleetwood Mac for the first time, I felt an obscure pressure to move. The night drew humid, awhile the damp smell of fertilizer seeped heavily inside my bedroom window. Hot bursts of wind blew steadily throughout my small bedroom in midst drizzled rain. This was the summer before freshman year of college. I was anxious, bored yet, apprehensive to move away from home. Every night before bed I wrote throughout a journal of short stories or poems as I listened to music into the wee hours of the morning. I overheard "Gypsy" by accident on an old radio cassette player my father bought me as birthday present when I was sixteen. Being the night owl that I was I tentatively listened to "night storm" aloud as I would set nearby my bedroom window.

Finding Myself While "Confidently Lost"
Have you ever felt vibrations while you're listening to one of your favorite songs? It sends a pulse through your body, and whatever feeling it brings, you feel it so intensely! I remember the first time I heard "my song". It was almost instantly when I decided to inhale self assurance, persistence, and joy and then exhale doubt, unwarranted criticism, and fear of falling face first on the pavement of life. People told me that turning 30 would yield that very moment. They weren't wrong. Three decades on this earth was symbolic for me. Symbolic of resilience. I had a surge of confidence upon the very first utterance of "Happy Birthday."

Answered Prayers
In 2016 I lost two pregnancies. The first was in March, and was an obviously terrifying experience. The second time was in July, on my husband's birthday, of all days. My reaction was calmer the second time around, but just as painful and upsetting as the first. I was surrounded by a massive support system in my family and friends, who encouraged me to stay positive and do what I needed to do to heal. I tried, I really did, but most days I was completely overcome by my emotions.

How “Life on Mars?” Changed My Life
A year ago I was in a dark time. Everything seemed to fall apart around me. The one thing I could never figure out was, why? Whenever something collapses, usually there is a physical reasoning behind it. I was lost in my thoughts until I discovered this song, “Life on Mars,” written by David Bowie for the album “Hunky Dory.” This dramatic, intense piece of music reflects upon how our lives become the world around us. It was after examining the lyrics of this song that I realized this was my reasoning; I had been taken by the modern world.

Karlissa Angelique
The song that I chose for the beat challenge is loving caliber - Not Us. I chose the instrumental of the song because I love the passion of the song, it has so much depth and drama. I chose this song because it is a memorial of my childhood depth and heres the story of my childhood and growing up. As a child the world felt like a wonder to me, I was shy but filled with wonder , at school I was so quiet but inside of me everything in my heart had a color like a rainbow telling me who I was, every color said something bright in my soul, I felt the excitement inside that I was an actor, and that is what I was going to do when I got older, I knew the passion was clear. everything inside of me said you love film, your a writer you write scripts, your a singer, you compose songs, play the piano, love to dance, be love, make people feel better, tell them they're amazing ,you are an encourager. Encourage their dream's and tell them that they have purpose and that they are important. I've always had a passion to love people and build them up. So when I listen to the song it just reminds me of the ways life progresses, first its just beginning and a child is born and barely knows who he or she is and starts to grow, then special moments start to happen that you start to see the talents, gifts, and purposes of the child, like a mother who was feeling down and a child came to kiss his mothers cheek, simply because the child loved her and inside of himself he hated seeing his mother cry and all of a sudden she remembered when he kissed her cheek that she was special and that every thing she did was not for no reason, But the child made her feel like she was someone and like she could keep going, that's a purpose many people never knew, that a child could make a parent feel like somebody, that a child could tell you who you are, that you weren't just a nobody, you are my somebody and we all think the mother is there for the child but then suddenly, its the child is there to love the mother and the mother needed him to move forward. Those are moments of depth, I hear those moments in the song. Then you start to become and realize who you are as a young adult growing into a teen and the world is fun and exciting, your talents are growing and advancing. In loving caliber- not us there are sounds of uprising, steady thoughts, and drama that climaxes the song reminds me of someones life that has been moved by something special, something you did to love another person, or to help them or to build them up inside. It reminds me of my very own self a girl who has a passion to love and make others feel loved inside. My dream is to love people who don't feel loved , to be a builder other people's dreams and encourage their progress and faith in succeeding, I created the video to show the awesomeness of the song and the way it tells a story like mine. My thoughts are to show passion to those who feel weak, and I truly want to see them be greater. and everyday I will challenge that meaning because I am a builder, and this is my life and what I love, and thats why loving caliber is one of my favorite songs, because it reminds me of who I am . I am Karlissa Angelique.

High Hopes
Music can strike a chord on your soul at any age. It can transcend the days of darkness and forever etch in our memories the lightness of love, the days of carefree youth and the dawn of our golden years. It can change your mood, it can set your mood, and it can record your mood. Music transports you in and out of moments in your life. It can be an anchor and it can be a balloon released to the clouds. It makes new memories and reinforces past ones. Music is your one true friend as well as the party. It is the chameleon of life that changes tempo and beat to match its listener. Music knows no limits and transcends all ages, races, gender, and religion. It is the original equal rights opportunity. Music is the conductor of life that transmute the passages of time and space. It can act as a comforter, cheerleader, lover, best friend, mother/father, reminder. It plays many roles in the trajectories of life. It can be the soft shoulder to cry on and the pep talk calling you out of a slump. Whatever situation presents itself in life, music is there to provide the soundtrack of the time.
