"To the woman who could not get away...."
We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. I was behind the wheel. You were staring out the passenger window as the snow swirled down from above. It looked soft, like eiderdown fluttering to the Earth. Or like feathers from the beating wings of some distant, smiling Angel.

"Happy Holidays-- are you happy with the number of gimmicks in your cart?
I admit that title is not an authentic quote. No matter how hard I thought it, I never really said so to any customers when I worked at [national grocery chain that likes to pretend it’s a tourist destination in the hopes that those oddly dedicated influencers will keep hashtagging their hauls].

The Sanctuary: Part 3 of the Horror-quarium Miniseries
"Okay Milli," Doctor Ivers beamed ear to ear as he spoke. "I'm very pleased to see your recovery from the surgeries is tracking well! The pain on those skin grafts may persist as a general soreness for a few more weeks. You may note some itching as well. That's usually just the new tissue, sort of, eh, adjusting if you will. The moisturizing medication will help with this, but if the itching is too bothersome we can talk about prescribing antihistamines."

The Cryptozoologist: Part 2 of the Horror-quarium Miniseries
"Why are you calling me Mario, you blew it! You took me for granted and now I'm gone." His voice always went up an octave when he was upset. It came through the phone like a tinny warble. "Milli, come on! I said I was sorry."

Rafi's Avalanche
it's a disaster! snow thunders down the mountain. trees snap. crush! woooosh! boom! Author's note: Another haiku written mostly by my 8 year old son. I helped him even less with this one than I had with his volcano poem. And I legit feel like the two he wrote with my minor help were way better than all the ones I wrote solo :)
