The Layer Cake.
The Layer Cake" Movie Review. One of the great crime dramas is "The Layer Cake". I have watched this movie many times. It deals with drug dealers, schemes and shakedowns. Daniel Craig is a drug dealer with a plan to get in and get out of the business.

Ulysses
Elevator Repair Services Theater Company in association with The Public Theater put forth a unique play about the James Joyce book, "Ulysses". Set as a staged reading (DOTS), the actors move about the baron stage with ease. Directed by John Collins with co-direction by Scott Shepard, the story and the comedic "business" for the most part are really good. Not that "Ulysses" doesn't have some problems, the play for the most part is enjoyable. At 2:30 minutes, the direction is tested with the length of this play.

Stranger Things.
If you like the surreal, if you like the series, then you will love the Broadway version of "Stranger Things The First Shadow". Between the great acting and the illusions (Jamie Harrison); the choreography (Lynne Page); the set design (Miriam Buether); the direction (Stephen Daldry), the Duffer Brothers and Jack Thorne have written a great musical on many fronts.

Anna Christie
Anna Christie" at St. Ann's Warehouse play written by Eugene O'Neil and for the most part is good. The acting by Brian D'Arcy James and Tom Sturridge is excellent; as is Mare Winningham, although she is not on stage for very long in this two hour-thirty minute show.

The Letter.
The Letter (2012 Movie.) I am not sure what "The Letter" is trying to accomplish. It is billed as a thriller but it languishes with a confusing plot. Winona Ryder does a good job in her role but she can't carry the movie as the story is horrible.

The Chicago Punk Seen.
You Weren't There: A History of Chicago punk. Directed by Joe Losurdo and Christina Tillman, this 2007 movie is based on the Chicago punk seen. Set between the years 1977–1984, we get a good look at some pretty talented musicians; in a way more so than most cities. The problem with these bands getting any notoriety is that Chicago is a small city and doesn't have the clout that New York City nor Los Angeles has.

Memory
"Memory" Movie Review. This 2023 film is as depressing as it is uplifting. Directed by Michel Franco and the pace is never fast and the viewer needs to pay attention to the little details that are key to the plot. It is more like a foreign film then an American one in that scenes don't necessarily blend into one another, but their relevancy is germane.

NY Hardcore Chronicles Film 1.5.
NY Hardcore Chronicles Film 1.5. On "Tubi" once again I found a great music documentary called N.Y. Hardcore Chronicles…. The film gave great enlightenment to the hard core metal bands in the early 80's. Like the punk rock seen it was based on the lower East Side of Manhattan.

Johnny Thunder
Johnny Thunders Once again on Tubi I saw another documentary worth watching, "Johnny Thunders". Born in 1952 in Queens, New York, John Genzali would grow to become one of the most influential guitarists in Rock, Punk Rock, New Wave and even acoustic guitar.
