When the Moon Hits Your Eye Like a Pizza Pie
California-style pizza is a combination of New York and Italian thin crust with toppings from California cuisine. Wolfgang Puck popularized this style of pizza. California-style pizza was invented more or less simultaneously in 1980 by Ed LaDou (the “Prince of Pizza”) and by pizza chefs working for Alice Waters at the Chez Panisse Café in Berkeley, California.

Majestic Trees
Silk Cotton Trees are Asian tropical trees, They have a straight tall trunk and their leaves are deciduous in winter. In the spring red flowers with five petals appear. The tree produces a capsule that when ripe has white fibres like cotton. These trees grow with huge twisting roots, made up of long, wavy, narrow planks. Their trunks have spikes to deter attacks by animals, Silk Cotton Trees are certainly an impressive sight to behold.

New York Chicken Riggies is an Italian-American pasta dish that comes from the Utica area in New York State. The dish is a delectable combination of rigatoni pasta, hot or sweet peppers, chicken, and a spicy, flavorable cream and tomato sauce. If you are travelling here you'll find almost every restaurant in Utica serves this dish.

Adorable Animals
On the Land The Red Panda has a soft red fur coat, the cutest fluffy ears, and a bushy tail. This panda grows only to the size of a domestic cat. It makes its home in Nepal, Burma, and central China living in mountainous forests. Most of its time is spent up in trees.

One Potato Two Potato
Europe Ireland Colcannon is a traditional Irish dish that is made by taking cooked potatoes and mashing them with kale or cabbage. The ingredients are made creamy by adding milk or cream and butter. The only seasonings used are salt and pepper. This dish can contain additional ingredients such as chives, onions, scallions, and leeks. Others might add bacon for extra flavor.

Remembering Baby and Johnny
A modern-day couple similar to all the great lovers of history were Baby and Johnny who met at a resort one summer in the lovely Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. The actors Jennifer Grey and the dynamic and handsome Patrick Swayze who left this world much too soon and now dances among the stars in the skies made these two characters really come alive. The movie was ”Dirty Dancing” and it got us singing, dancing, romancing and sighing.

Europe England Cheese and Onion Pie is the ultimate English comfort food. The pie is a combination of shortcrust pastry, cheddar or crumbly cheeses and cooked or fried onions. There can be additional ingredients like potatoes, creme fraiche and a sauce that is made with flour, milk, and cream, The pie can be served hot or cold and accompanied by a salad.

The Soul Mate Connection
Back in 1994, I was coming off of a really unsuccessful marriage and all I wanted to do was turn my life around. My mom who at that time had already passed the age of 80 had been eager to return to her homeland Latvia. We also had the task of taking along my father’s urn so he could be reburied in his homeland in Ranka in a country cemetery not too far from where he was born and raised.

Ghostly Pirates at the Bridge Cafe
With fond memories of The Bridge Cafe in New York City near the Brooklyn Bridge and right close to the South Street Seaport. On summer nights this is the place to be with the warm breezes blowing in from the river and the bridge lights twinkling above. All of that combined with the wonderful food, drinks and atmosphere of the cafe.

Backyard Creatures
For many years my trusty digital camera a Pentax Optio W 60 waterproof has never failed me. In the early morning stepping out on my second-floor floor front porch I looked down into the yard and saw what looked like a cat met with an accident. Fluffkins was sunbathing and the sight of him in the morning sunlight made me smile and this was the result.
