The Girl with the Flowers
Go out camping, they said. It will be fun, they said. I will be honest with you, they were wrong. It had been a little over a year since it happened. In an attempt to rouse me from my grief filled stupor, some of my friends suggested I go out camping like I used to. Just something to get me out of the house.

These were not good times friends. The world was covered with ash and dust as often as it was covered with ice and snow. A man walked in from the grey wastes, a land of ruins and fear, monuments to the times before. He walked and walked, his boots crunching in the dirt and ash.

Deer Season
The sun rose and began its languid trip around the sky. Its light stretched among the woods, finding hidden spaces, covering others in new shadows. Dawn’s warm yellow glow didn’t capture the way the frigid air stopped your breath, or how on really early mornings if you didn’t keep the air in your mouth for a little while it would sting your lungs. On November mornings, the world was still quiet.
