Two men ventured up. Only one came down; murder- By man, or mountain?
lightning-lashed summit caressed by Zeus, enticed by something within reach.
violence in the peaks. men fought men, men fought mountains, bodies rest there still.
Giant’s resting place, The summit serves as headstone. By King Arthur, slain.
Romans far from home. Golden eagle, swallowed by Myth-and-mist mountains
carved faces of men mar a sacred place. thieving, vi’lent legacy.
You trained men for war. Imbued in them your steadfast Heart; taught them to die.
stalwart samurai cherry blossom vista, loved heart of a country.
Heroes fought, gods laughed. Wine-dark blood in the mountain pass. Stones remember.
lashed by God’s paintbrush rich hues herald winter’s touch. leaves die in glory.
night in the desert sharp, bitter cold, raining stars. lone coyote cries.
