waltzing on hot coals didn’t hurt anymore-we were used to the pain.
One part earth, taken from the highest mountain peak, heat in the center of a fiery volcano, reserve one part blue flame, set aside.
fresh wounds became scars, new candles burned down the wick- self-extinguished flame. primordial tide, clung and receded, moon-flung,
earthen brown eyes, your disguise; then, set ablaze in amber by the sun.
burn the chaff of life and what is left? pure fire leaves a golden remnant.
Life’s great illusion is that you are secure-a thing to be trusted.
Ankle-deep in the fish’s air, made a wish, and watched the sea take it.
whisper on the wind crescendoed to harsh echo; “why me, why this, why?”
“trial by fire” was a polite way of saying, “if you fail, you die.”
how long did we stay like that, cocooned in silence and flame-warmed shadows? // what spell was fire-cast, to make us watch as logs were
