My name is Trevor Beard. Since high school I have always wanted to become a broadcaster. I followed news, sports, government and current events since I was old enough to read. Growing up in the 80s and early 90s I just missed the Gen X and internet boom. I graduated in 1994 from a rural Southern Oregon community. There was no TV, or radio station within 30 miles and the only media in the area being a now defunct weekly newspaper.

Did the Car Change the Driver?
Remember when, with the arrival of computers, there were alt fan groups like chat rooms, where we could discuss, anything. I belonged to a Keanu Reeves fan group. I had never posted my feelings, thoughts or expressed myself to the world before. I remember how I agonized over the voice I would use, the content, and just how much I gushed about my love for Keanu. But, I also wanted to set myself apart, as I was no regular "fan." I was an honest, real, person who saw his dark tormented soul shining like a beacon in the Hollywood quagmire. I didn't want anything other than to discuss how beautiful and wonderful he was. But it was also a secret society of sorts and I didn't share the content with anyone in my day to day life. Over time, I encountered trolls, and they probably had a few good laughs at my expense. Thinking about it now...makes me cringe. I was from the first group of computer-internet users, and I was in my early 30s. This battling and jousting was serious stuff. Going public was a big deal and I remember when "chatting" was the topic of discussion with my friends and "blowing a private" was either hilarious or enough to move on to another site. The confidence in my voice grew as I meandered through the virtual highway. I found answers to almost every question I could ask. I found like minded people, symptoms for the diseases I had and didn't have. I found porn. Good Lord, I remember hanging a sheet over the living room window, so nobody could see into my house, to see that I was clicking on porn—not even going into the sites—just looking at the thumbnails. Now, several years later I have noticed how savage I have become in my posts, usually on government issues and all things Trump related. How the respect I gave to fellow posters has diminished and I seldom think about the voice or tone or content I give... It is, generally, compromised of a clever rude remark and a cutting comment to put them in their place and to enlist the agreement from whomever may read it. Disclaimer: This is only on Trump topics.

Will Social Media be the End of Us?
I grew up in what adults refer to as “the privileged generation,” “the technology generation,” or more specificized as “Generation Z.” We are the generation that started social media. There is no denying it in any way. Social media is any website or application that enables users to interact with each other. Ways of interaction include pictures, videos, texting, and calling. Through these interactions, users are able to become closer and get to know each other better. Social media is accessible almost anywhere in the world through technology and its massive advancement. This means that people from teenagers, young adults, and moreover to older adults are all able to use social media. Those at a very young age have also started using social media. Those users have been using websites and applications like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and many other networking sites. These sites allow for quick and easy interaction with just about anyone, from family members to even complete strangers. A 2016 study by Pew Research Center found that 69% of Americans use some type of social media, compared to 5% in 2005 (Greenwood, 2016). Social media has changed society’s ways of sharing information and communicating with others. Though social media has led to positive changes in interaction, it also has its downsides.

Ciao Ending Payments for Reviews
It's been something that many of us have seen coming for a long time, but social comparison/product review site Ciao has announced that they will stop paying writers for their reviews and rates. The future of the site always seemed bleak since the announcement of sister site Dooyoo announcing that they will cease to pay for reviews in 2015. Yesterday I wrote my 300th and final review for ciao.co.uk. It is an end of the era indeed, but I will never forget the friends and memories that I have made on ciao.co.uk.

It's Them Or Us
Think of your idea of a perfect world. Does it involve world wide peace? A ban against firearms in all countries? The removal of Trump and his Hitler-like reign? Or even simpler: an endless amount of puppies running all over the place? I bet you didn't think it would be a completely computerised and social media following army of robots with organs, and an endless campaign against imperfections. Unfortunately, we've missed out on the take-over of puppies and we are still stuck with pointless gun violence but in return we use publications such as Photoshop to make adolescents and young adults to doubt their natural beauty and pay thousands of money on plastic surgery. Of course all the money goes to the government...it has no other place to go right? Wrong.
