No Amount of Paint Can Cover the Truth

We clearly see the bruises on her skin, yet we ignore them as if it's okay. We watch her stumble over her words when we ask her about her relationship. Yet we still stay quiet like a couple of mimes. We smile in her face with our mouths closed and our ears open wide, waiting for her to cry for help. She tried to cover her scars with foundation, and concealer but no amount of paint can cover the truth.

“Luise and I have been arguing but I’m seeing our relationship grow stronger.”

How delusional can Reign be? She’s suffering and she doesn’t even acknowledge it.

“Yeah, I can see the love from the both of you.”

Kennedy shouldn’t have said that to Reign. She knows that they are not healthy for one another. “That’s what I’ve been saying! Yeah, he has anger issues, but he’s the kindest man I’ve ever known. He’s been by my side when I had no one; when my mother was abusing me and when my father left me.”

He also was tearing you down and calling you worthless around that time. He was never supportive the way Kennedy and I are. He’s never actually made her a priority; she has always made the majority of her time for him. Never the other way around.

“Yeah, he is a pretty cool guy.” Kennedy continues to lie. “I’ve always liked him.”

Girl we talk mess about Luise all of the time. All of this just to keep Reign on our good side. Just so she doesn't shut us out and get lost in this sociopath. But what if she’s already lost? How would I feel if he killed her? That’s what it’s leading to isn’t it? She’s lying to us about what’s actually going on. When we see them together, we can clearly see that he’s evil.

“Yeah, he loves y’all just as much as I love y’all.”

Okay this comment is going to make me nauseous. Because what does he mean he loves us? We don’t love him. “Aw that’s sweet.” Kennedy coos.

Okay how can Reign not tell Kennedy is being fake? We’ve all been friends for years; Reign has to see this conversation is making us extremely awkward. Also, I’m never this quiet… Doesn’t she notice? They’re playing normal when none of us are normal.

“Liyla, why aren’t you saying anything?” Reign asks. Kennedy looks at me all bug eyed; like she’s trying to signal something to me.

“Can I be honest?”

“Here we go…” Reign groans, “What negative response do you have today?”

“Well, excuse me for actually caring about your wellbeing instead of going along with everything you do.” I snap

“Is that shade being thrown at me?” Kennedy puts her hand over her heart in shock. She is such a goofball… Of course she’s not going to set Reign straight.

“What do you mean, Liyla?” Reign’s irritable.

“I mean, why are you covering up bruises?” I ask, “Where did you get them from?”

Reign pauses for a minute; I guess trying to form a lie.

“Well, I fell. That's all.”

“Hmm, you’ve been falling a lot ever since you got with Luise. What’s up with that?”

She looks at me with distaste. Like I burst her bubble. I pulled her out of a sweet dream. But this is a nightmare she’s living in. She deserves better.

“Liyla, I can’t talk to you anymore because your negativity is going to ruin my relationship. Luise deserves respect. Especially after everything he’s done for me.”

Now I’m looking at her with distaste. Reign and Kennedy walk away from me like I never existed. They go about their day like normal.
