“Why can’t you just take this chance with me?” he snaps, hiding his sadness.

“Because I took so many.” Her eyes meet his, “and you let me down every single time.”

“It’s not-“

“Oh yes it is, there has been no change. Anytime I even slightly believed that there was hope, you made sure to remind me that you are who you choose to be,” she scoffs. “So now you expect me to overlook the same signs while you tug at the heartstrings you once dictated? No,” she shakes her head, “you don’t get to do that. Not anymore. I am nothing like how I used to be. The person you so desperately cling onto has changed with the chaos you brought. And I like it that way.”

“I know I made mistakes, but does that warrant an eternal misery?” his voice choked up.

Her eyes turn soft, “Oh I don’t wish that on you.” Leveling her gaze to his, “No, I want you to be happy. I want you to be in love, grow old with the person you love, live the brightest days out of the most horrendous storm you surround your mind in,” she holds his hands tightly.

His tears fall unexpectedly, and suddenly his hands clutch on her wrists, “Then why can’t I have you?”

Her expression turning to pity, “Because then I’ll be in eternal misery.”
