The Memory Keeper. Honorable Mention in The Moment That Changed Everything Challenge.
When you are twelve, the death of parent is a life altering, world-shattering event. One could argue, that at any age the death of a parent can be devastating, but when you are twelve it is bigger somehow. Or at least it felt that way to me. The poem that follows captures a difficult time in my life. When I was ten years old my father was diagnosed with ALS, a disease with no cure, and when I was twelve, he died. I spent two years pretending like it wasn't happening. ALS is not easy to diagnose so, they weren't sure. At ten I decided that it wasn't that horrible disease, and I kept right on thinking that until he died. A part of me died that day as well.

The story of a life saving Parrot, amidst the chaos and order of hospital life.
The world was burning, a new US president was being sworn into office, it was Martin Luther King's Day and a few days short of my friend's February 6th birthday. She now finds herself being prepped for life saving surgery.

An alternative look at Trumps win. Content Warning.
Trumps win, while it was indeed historic, the aftermath of his win leads to a lot of questions being asked. And these questions are not only being asked by the democrats and the progressives, but also a major portion of the republicans and conservatives. Don’t believe me? Just take a look on X.

Are you in the right job?
In a perfect world, people would be hired because they are the best at the job they are applying for. In a perfect world, that best hired person for the job would take pride in his talent and work and provide the best product and/or service as he was hired to do. That's in a "perfect" world - but we don't live in a "perfect" world, do we? What I've seen happen more often is the wrong person in a job. The wrong person doesn't do the job right. The wrong person doesn't "love" the job or the product or the service. The wrong person has no pride in the job and the wrong person often makes the customers of the product or service unsatisfied. How did the wrong person get that job? Why is the wrong person still doing that job?

The Heartbeat of the Earth
The air was heavy with the scent of earth, rich and fertile, as the sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the fields. Violet stood at the edge of the homestead, watching the land stretch endlessly before her, green and gold beneath the wide, endless sky. The wind whispered through the trees, a gentle reminder of the quiet rhythm of the world she had come to know so well. The hum of crickets, the chirp of birds, the soft clink of the barn door opening in the breeze—these sounds had woven themselves into the fabric of her every day. They were the pulse of life, steady and constant.

Mindless Obedience. Content Warning.
She remembers the day it all changed. Her world, her life... everything she knew became twisted. The whole world changed in an instant. It was the day this twisted version of a patriotic political party gained control in her country. They called themselves the party for the country and making it "great" once again. They were led by a man whose rise to power was swift and done by gaslighting the people into believing that he would give them wealth and make their country shine again. His name was Hitler. He destroyed her life, and the lives of millions.

Love you, Mom. Honorable Mention in The Moment That Changed Everything Challenge.
Her hand in mine. The six of us continued looking at the machine with the numbers, watching, waiting. Top number was the heart rate; below that were other numbers: blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and respiration. The glowing numbers in the darkened room changed every moment as the tendrils of tubes measured the last bits of her life. An hour earlier, I had jokingly bet which number would reach zero first – respiration. I would be right.

Blind Visions
It was a complicated case of the blind leading the blind. In March of 2018, we took our son for his annual eye exam to get updated eyeglass prescriptions. That year he was 20/70 and 20/80. At almost 21, he was ready to get his driver’s license, but he’d need an updated prescription the following year. He was eager to drive.

Spare Changing. Honorable Mention in The Moment That Changed Everything Challenge.
“Kirabo?” He blinked awake. For a moment, he felt out of place. Chalky walls reflected white light from a cold glass window. The sound of city leaked through its translucent charm, even from several stories high, and the smell of brewing coffee seemed to soften the keen edges of a modern, greyscale design. A heartening, feminine voice greets him through a cracked door.

Lockdown
I can give you the date: March 11, 2020. Everything that led up to this moment and the fallout afterward may fall from the world’s memory over time, but I kept a running timeline from pre-2020 to January 2021. I know that one day my grandchildren will ask if any of “that stuff” actually happened so I collected article headlines, news photos, and the abundance of memes that one day won’t make sense out of context.

NOITULOVE. Content Warning.
Introduction I wasn't so sure about doing this one, and I doubt this will even be considered for the challenge as it is not SWAMP material although it will touch on that, though ironically the video does include a swamp, but I still think it is worth sharing. It will contain lots of pivotal moments and may probably lose me some subscribers but if it makes one person think or give one person inspiration then it will be worth doing.
