Ubuntu is a word
that deserves a place in our vocabulary.
Those who have used the Linux operating system
know the name vaguely.
though most don’t care for the etymology.
they are tech people,
it is just another version
to run computer work.
Not me, I had to learn.
So, I learned its meaning
about a decade ago,
let me share now.
Ubuntu is an African word
with a beautiful philosophy.
It says:
How can one of us be happy
if another is sad?
My life is tied to yours.
What I am
is because of who you are.
We become human through
each other.
Such a lofty philosophy!
Doesn’t it deserve
to be embraced and practiced?
It sure does.
