start with too many ingredients:

expectation, want, desire, yearning,

eight flavors of hurdle, six missing skills,

a time constraint and a hole in your head.

add pressure. add heat. overwork it until

it's somehow tough and chewy

and melting down in all the wrong places.

perfect.

pour in something that might be spoiled,

or just cultured. either way, there won't be any left

wherever you'd try to get more. bake it in an icebox

set to rancid.

look at the picture. look at yours. look at the picture. look at yours.

why doesn't yours look like the picture?

promise yourself

you can have something else. promise yourself

there is another way. if you can find it. if you can reach it.

if. if. if.
