Unfair

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 16 hours ago 1 min read

verse 1

I had a picture in my mind, you know,

our whole damn lifetime sketched in soft golden tones.

I saw your hand in mine through every season,

never thought I’d walk alone.

But the clocks don’t stop for heartbreak,

and the sun keeps rising just the same,

while I’m standing in the doorway

calling out your name.

chorus

And it’s unfair

how life goes on without you.

Unfair

how the world keeps spinning through.

I’m still frozen in the moment

when I thought love meant forever,

but the days keep pulling me forward

like they never knew you.

Baby, it's so unfair

how life goes on without you.

verse 2

I watch the neighbors mow their lawns,

kids ride bikes, the mail gets dropped off at dawn.

Everyone’s living like nothing’s missing,

while I’m learning how to breathe again.

I try to stitch the pieces back together,

but the shape of me still fits your hands.

I’m walking through a future

we were supposed to plan.

chorus

And it’s unfair

how life goes on without you.

Unfair

how the world keeps spinning through.

I’m still frozen in the moment

when I thought love meant forever,

but the days keep pulling me forward

like they never knew you.

Baby, it's so unfair

how life goes on without you.

bridge

Maybe someday I’ll forgive the hours

for dragging me away from what we dreamed.

Maybe someday I’ll stop reaching

for the ghost of what we’d be.

But tonight I’m holding onto

every memory that was true,

because the hardest part of living

is doing it without you.

final choruschorus

And it’s unfair

how life goes on without you.

Unfair

how the world keeps spinning through.

I’m still frozen in the moment

when I thought love meant forever,

but the days keep pulling me forward

like they never knew you.

Baby, it's so unfair

how life goes on without you.
