I startled awake eyes
flying wide open heart
pounding-panic- where am
I what time is it what
is happening where
do I need to be?
Room starless dark moon
less ebony inky night dripping
down the walls quiet
hushed so quiet even
refrigerator holds its breath ice
cubes frozen in place furnace
caught between hot
and cold blankets bunched at
my back so why
am I awake?
You would know why the sky is blue.
Too cozy in the covers burrowing
down into the downy billows flinging
my hand slyly to the side to
touch your hip and feel
the heat.
You aren't
there you are
gone you
are
gone.
