The Old Me

A Poem about Motherhood

By K.P. SamiPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I have to say goodbye

Because I have to

And that’s the worst way to leave

To desert a love without wanting

To. I don’t want to go

Please know

Please know this

You were always the greatest kiss

And a great friend, you

Only got bad when I was being bad

You never made me bad

You help a lot, too, some type of healing performer you can be

But clowns don’t need more shows

Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no

There’s this one who needs me now

My second shot

The greatest gift I never deserved

But He must have granted

All those things

Grace,

Mercy,

Love,

Her.

What joy, the heart can ache from the power of Joy

That’s what she does for me

I was told by an old stranger on Halloween 3 years ago

whose eyes are still haunting,

Me, yes me, those solemn eyes

He could see what I could be

“Protect her, he said.”

It pulled me out of feeling free.

Caring is serious business.

It’s not Art.

I’m not free anymore

Happiness is a good prison

And when people come to visit

And God’s decided that She and Me -

That We

Are one, together forever,

I get my place.

No greater proof that He’s real.

Her.

Peace be with you, old friend.
