The Man Who Lied His Life Away
No one believed a word from his lips

The Man Who Lied His Life Away
He smiled like he meant it, but never did,
each promise he made just slid through the grid.
He told them he mattered, that someone would care,
but rooms went silent the moment he was there.
He borrowed hearts like coins from a jar,
left them emptied, cracked, scattered afar.
He said he was sorry, said he would change,
but sorrow and truth were always estranged.
His stories grew taller the lonelier he got,
his name a footnote most people forgot.
No dog at the door, no key in the tray,
just dust and old takeaways left on display.
He dreamt of a woman who’d see through the mess,
who’d cradle his ruins and still say yes.
But he lied with his smile, his voice, his breath,
and lost what was living to silence and death.
Now curtains hang still, no reason to lift,
no knocks, no callers, no messages swift.
Unloved, unwanted, not mourned when he fell,
just a man with a mouth full of stories to tell.

Damn... I felt seen... :) Great work, Marie!
How sad for him, but maybe his lies were a truth in a way. Good job.
Many people feel only way to be accepted is to lie. Sadly truth always comes out
"He borrowed hearts like coins from a jar, left them emptied, cracked, scattered afar." I really liked these lines Marie. Nice work
I wonder why we don't fix our ways, even though, we all want love.
