The Eye in the Mountain

the Mountain

By Imran Ali ShahPublished about 5 hours ago 2 min read

People in the small village of Darin always said the mountain was strange. It stood alone beyond the forest, tall and silent, its dark cliffs watching the village like a giant guardian. Old villagers often warned children, “Never climb that mountain after sunset.”

Most people thought it was just another old story.

One summer morning, a young hiker named Ayaan decided to explore the mountain. He loved adventures and believed the stories were only myths meant to scare children.

The path was steep and rocky, but the view became more beautiful with every step. Birds flew above him, and the wind whispered through the trees.

After hiking for nearly two hours, Ayaan reached a high cliff. He stopped to drink water and looked around.

That’s when he noticed something strange on the mountain wall.

At first, it looked like a large, smooth rock circle embedded in the stone. But the shape was too perfect.

Curious, Ayaan walked closer.

The circle was enormous—almost the size of a small house. It had layers around it that looked strangely like eyelids carved into the mountain.

He laughed nervously.

“Looks like a giant eye,” he muttered.

The sunlight slowly moved across the cliff as the afternoon passed.

Then something happened that made Ayaan’s heart stop.

The circle moved.

Very slowly… the rocky “eyelid” slid open.

A deep golden glow appeared inside.

Ayaan froze.

It was not a rock.

It was an eye.

A gigantic eye, hidden inside the mountain itself.

The eye blinked once, sending dust and tiny stones falling down the cliff.

The ground trembled softly beneath Ayaan’s feet.

He couldn’t breathe.

The eye slowly turned… and looked directly at him.

For a moment, the entire world felt silent.

Ayaan felt as if the mountain was studying him.

His heart pounded loudly in his chest.

“Th-this isn’t possible…” he whispered.

Suddenly, the wind grew stronger, swirling around the cliff. The trees far below began shaking.

The eye blinked again.

This time the mountain made a deep rumbling sound, like something ancient waking after thousands of years.

Ayaan stumbled backward.

He realized something terrifying.

The mountain wasn’t just a mountain.

It was something alive.

Panic rushed through him. He quickly grabbed his backpack and began running down the rocky path.

Behind him, the rumbling continued.

He didn’t dare look back.

Branches scratched his arms as he rushed through the forest path. His mind raced with questions.

How could a mountain have an eye?

How long had it been there?

And why did it wake up now?

After what felt like forever, Ayaan finally reached the edge of the village.

He stopped, breathing heavily.

The mountain stood quietly in the distance again, just like it always had.

No movement.

No glowing eye.

Nothing.

Villagers noticed his pale face and asked what happened.

But when Ayaan tried to explain, his voice trembled.

“I… I saw the mountain blink.”

Some villagers exchanged nervous glances.

One old man slowly nodded.

“I warned you,” he said quietly.

“That mountain has always been watching us.”

Ayaan looked back at the silent peak.

The sunlight touched the cliff exactly where he had seen the eye.

For a moment… he thought he saw the rock move again.

Just a tiny blink.

And suddenly Ayaan understood something that sent a chill down his spine.

The mountain had not just woken up.

It had always been awake.

It was simply waiting to be seen.
