Taco Bell revisited

Dreaming California

I remember Taco Bell

So well

Long before

They came to these shores

I remember English muffins

In a San Francisco hotel

Long before

I ever saw them

Anywhere in England

Fisherman’s Wharf and

Clam chowder

Barking sea lions

Basking in the sun

Lazing on the pier

Taking all of it in

With my two best girls

Hotel and motel rooms

Sierra Nevada in early spring

Thaw freeze thaw

Sequoia grand

Endless vistas

Half Dome mountain

A town called Raymond then

Pacific Highway

Another motel room

You and I kicked out

When you wouldn’t sleep

Until

Strapped into the Buick

You soon began your dreams

As I continued mine

You my sleeping companion

Cliffs overlooking the majestic

Ocean

Grey whales breaching in the distance

Who needs sleep

When angels dance across the waters

Monterey Bay

Sea otters

Gophers

Kelp and sand

Dolphins synchronised

Cross the bay

In unison

Onto

San Diego and

Sea World

We love you Shamu we do

Shame about how you

Suffer the

Floppy fin

A Willy deep within

Never to be free

Though we three

Will never forget

Our California dreaming

One day we may return

As did you two

Retracing our steps

Revisiting

Taco Bell

We stilll have Taco Bell here! Interestingly enough, I actually worked there when I was 14 years old, with a Health Certificate and Hardship Permit, required because the legal age was 16.
