Means to put yourself first

Not trying to give to get

'Cause people can sense the thirst

Sometimes when you're by yourself, you know it has to hurt

To heal your wounds with bandages, prioritize yourself first

For you to be selfless

You have to be selfish

But not closed tight like a watertight shellfish

A cupped hand into which love can be poured

Not a closed-fist, clinging onto its horde

If you're afraid of being left behind, you'll never let go

The longer you hold on the less you will grow

It's difficult because it's out your control

You can't confine it to your boundaries, the pressure's the flow

Every person should learn to say "No"

To establish your boundaries of what you control

Don't start conflating

This with ego-inflating

Since to love yourself and others you have to protest

Against poor treatment that you surely detest

It's not a mechanism to use for defense

People will test you, to see your pretense

Some people are helpless, they need others to stay

Few people lack courtesy, keep them at bay

When you're being used, a toy just for their play

You have the right to use, the power to walk away

|

External validation is something upon which you should not be reliant

Saying "No" to poor treatment is to what you should be defiant

Don't force other people into your desired compliance

You have to love all parts of yourself, you're your own alliance

You have to learn to give yourself permission

You deserve to give yourself your own ear to listen

You deserve to do what's best, use your intuition

You don't have to fight for others' time, give yourself attention.

Don't just look in the mirror for some simple recognition

Improve your self-worth, you're your own competition

You can build yourself up, don't be your own demolition

Treat yourself right right now, get rid of that inhibition

We all wish to be blessed

To be removed from our stress

Yet the hardest thought

Is that we can only give what we got

If to give more is what we do wish

To become selfless we have to be selfish
