Saugany Lake

A Poem about Living, Loving, and Growing up

By Allyson KieszkowskiPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
Saugany Lake, Indiana

I can still feel the sun on my skin

The warm comforting feeling of the summer sun heating my cold body

after my first plunge of the summer.

A right of passage say if you will.

Splashing, jumping, swimming oh what a thrill.

That's when you caught my eye walking by.

Tall, lean, and handsome any teenage girls dream not to mention he was

slightly older.

I tried not to notice that I too had caught your eye and ignored the fact I

could feel your stare piercing through me.

Not paying any more attention I went on with my summer and frequently

swam and enjoyed the lake with friends.

That's when you found the courage to ask me out on a date

Where did we go ?

Of course good Ol' Saugany Lake.

We swam all day; we laughed we were both just as nervous as the other.

Then I couldn't help it maybe it was young love, maybe to was the

atmosphere of the lake, or maybe it was Chief Saugana looking down on us

encouraging this sweet budding romance.

Sitting next to you on a bench as I recall as if it were yesterday I leaned over

and finally broke the ice and gave you a sweet innocent kiss on the cheek.

Then it never stopped. We kissed every where we went.

We frequently went to Saugany Lake not only because that was where we

had our first date but because that was the place to be.

Some say this lake is a magical place to be and I believe them for that's

where you met me and I met you and ever since our love has grown deeper

and deeper with each passing day.

Ironically the lake is shaped like a heart and it makes since because that

where I gave you mine.
