My writing site is called My Writing and yours. The first two are some of the yours:

1) Forty-seven years ago today

I was working on a way

To have a better life for me

And my little family

August of nineteen seventy-eight

I quit drinking, but I didnโ€™t feel great

All I drank to forget was right back

My gosh, the world looked black

I was feeling terribly guilty and sad

And at myself, I was pretty darn mad

I talked to my friend about my feelings

Her suggestion sent me reeling

A treatment program is what you

And her words I did heed

Within just two or three days

I found someone to stay

With my kids for twenty-eight days

So that was the beginning for me

Of a life of adventure and being free

J.B. 12/8/25

2) I opened my eyes at 3,

Probably because I had to pee.

I really hate to say,

But that was the start of my day.

As I returned to my bed

Something caught my eye instead.

The tree lights were left on

Something I wouldnโ€™t have done.

As I entered the living room.

I bumped into my kitchen broom ๐Ÿงน .

Another job I left unfinished,

It hit the floor with a BOOM.

So I finished sweeping the floor

And my husband ๐Ÿ›Œ continued to snore ๐Ÿ’ค.

The tree again caught me eye ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

I walked closer and gave a big sigh.

Not all the ornaments were there,

Some still in the box ๐Ÿ—ƒ๏ธ on the chair ๐Ÿช‘ .

So I hung a few more,

Bringing up memories galore.

A few tears ๐Ÿ˜ญ started flowing

As the beautiful tree ๐ŸŒฒ was glowing.

The clock quietly ticked on

Until it was dawn.

I finished decorating the room

Finish sweeping with the broom ๐Ÿงน.

The sun ๐ŸŒž had come up.

I poured coffee in my cup.

My chores for yesterday are done.

Starting all over today with my โ€œto-doโ€ list number one. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜

3) Good morning

This is a warning

Today we rhyme

This is the time

Keep us informed

Tell us if it stormed

Tell us your favorite dish

or your special wish

Tell us in two lines

or 25 lines - no fines

Warning is - may need

to do the deed

subtract and add

I don't want to be bad

Tell me if you enjoy

This isn't a ploy

We have a core group

It's okay to snoop

The title, though, is not hers

It is my writing and yours

25 lines are fast approaching

I am doing a bit of coaching

So time to rhyme today

must be ready for every day

for when it comes to February

Okay, this is 26 lines - tee hee!

Author's Note: I wrote the rhyme above for my writing group, which is titled My Writing and Yours. Every month on the eighth, my writing group rhymes. We have a core group that does this every month. Then, in February, we do a Poem a Day in February (PaDiF). In February, we run contests with different poetry formats, and one of those weeks, we rhyme every day. There are prizes, and the winners are included in a poetry book at the end of the month. I enjoy it and will have a helper this year, which I am looking forward to!

This group sounds great. I love poetry that rhymes. That is why I enjoy Vocal, they have taught me so much about the different types of poetry, and the different types of fiction, and how to write them. I wonder if they will ever have drabbles. Anyway, your poems are wonderful Denise. Nicely Done!!!

I still think poetry that rhymes is king, even though I have surprised myself and started to write free verse. Loved your poem, the rhyme keeps it moving along at a happy pace.

  • Oooo, I love all of these, especially the second one!
