Please Die Responsibly

this is a no-dying area

”please drink responsibly”

there’s coughing in the corner-

it sounds almost

ironic?

“please drink responsibly.

please purchase our expensive

addictive

life-consuming

relationship-shattering

reason-dulling

beverage

and drink it

responsibly

“smoking area”

eyes are shifting

in the corner;

it sounds almost

ironic?

“dying area.

please die here.

please inhale deadly toxins and breathe them out over here, please.

but don’t do it over there.

this is a

dying area.”

minds are shifting

in the corners-

because it sounds so…

ironic?

imagine if

it wasn’t

a beverage;

imagine if it was an

expensive

addictive

life-consuming

relationship-shattering

reason-dulling

beverage;

imagine if

it wasn’t a smoking area;

imagine if it was a

dying area.

“just die over there, please.”

“just gossip over there, please.”

“just harm people over there, please.”

i look at these signs

and i think

“how funny-

that should be a

‘dying area here’

sign.”

***

hot take on a thought i had a few years back when i friend and i visited hershey park for the first time and i saw a sign that said “smoking area.”

imagine if we had “dying areas.”

or “harming areas.”

i don’t think anyone would go to those.

    I love how you push the idea to 'dying areas’. It definitely made me stop and sit with the uncomfortable honesty.
