Sudden throbbing pain, first in the nose then in the brain.

Body feels weightless and heavy all the same.

Gasping, lungs filling quickly.

Hesitant eyes open, only darkness can be seen.

Pulse drumming a rhythmless beat.

Debris painfully ripping numb flesh.

Limbs moving frantically,

Surface breaks.

Cannon and gunfire reverberate the night.

Reflections of flames ricochet on the waves.

Bodies surround me.

An angel gazes down from the prow, disapprovingly.

Shouts of triumph ring out.

The other bow glides to its icy grave.

A rope smacks down beside me,

Resume fate.

“Captain are you alright?” a man shouts.

All eyes now on me.
