A night like any other,
with my friends and all my brothers,
but nothing's ever caught my eye
like those neon tights.
I know we're at a club, and you seem to have heart,
but nothing's ever captured mine before.
It’s a lot to take in;
your tights and giant hairpins,
but nothing's ever taken my breath
like the way, you dance in that dress.
I don’t know when you catch me staring.
I hope you don’t think I’m glaring.
Your eyes lock onto mine, and I’m left;
Wondering.
Speechless.
A voice calls my name but I can’t listen.
The room is so quiet looking at you,
and I hope you feel it too,
but nothing's ever gone my way.
I reel back in, wishing I could say;
How gorgeous you are.
How happy you look.
How I want to be a part of that.
My brothers ask if I’m okay.
It takes a lot to not look back.
The night goes on,
I wonder ‘what if’,
and feel my head slowly turning,
to see your head cocked ever so slightly.
Smiling at the churning thoughts in my head.
It’s so radiant, lips a shade of pink
that I’ve never seen before.
You are a neon goddess in this light
And I a lowly peasant.
I look back, a smile escaping.
People are heading home, the night unwinding,
but for you, no time has passed.
An immortal moment,
a forever happenstance,
but nothing's ever been more clear.
This is my chance.
Soon it’s just us.
You still dancing, me on the side.
A bartender holding in his sighs.
“Come dance with me.” A whisper,
a command.
I am nothing but an obedient man.
Your body so soft, your voice, a dream.
But nothing's ever what it seems.
We dance until they kick us out
So much time, so much doubt
“I hope we meet again.” You say.
My throat is tight, words delayed.
You kiss me softly, a mouth from heaven.
I decide, no more being hesitant.
We exchange numbers, more kisses,
and I hope this night is real,
because nothing's ever hooked me,
like the way you’ve made me feel.
