Three tiny tears

Currently hurt horribly

Adductor brevis

Upper abdominal

Left teres major

All voicing discontent

Pinching grumbles

Heard loud and clear

Through every

Little ambulation

I knew this

Would happen

It’s been

Three years

Since I wrapped

Myself up

Silk is a lie

Thick polyester

Squeezes tightly

Organs, tissue

Every step

Must be deliberate

Keenly attentive

Or else

You could die

A bit dramatic

But once I

Got stuck

15 feet up

Upside down

Hanging by

One ankle

Fear coursed

through me

As it cinched

Toes purpled, swelling

Rescued by friends

Lowering pulleys

I breathed

And grinned

Walked over to

My camera

And then broke

My toe

Kicking the mat

Who would want

To love

Such a struggle

Never becoming

Some kind of

Marvel to admire

Yet here I am

Relearning how to

Tie myself up

In knots

Jokes on me

I’ve always been

Good at that

Author’s note

Yesterday was my second class back after a three year break. Everything hurts and I feel sorry for myself that I can’t do what I used to be able to do, but then I remembered the one scary time I became trapped, high up and upside down. I was so scared I had seriously hurt myself, and my relief when I came down was palpable. Chuckling, I went over to run off my camera and in the process, I kicked a mat on the floor and broke my pinky toe. Life comes at us like that all the time, doesn’t it?

This isn’t the video of that scary time, but getting stuck happens and it’s fun to laugh it off. This little video shows how I was never really great at it but it has always brought me immense joy.
