Keep You at Bay

Lyrics about fraught friendship

By Gabriel ShamesPublished about 23 hours ago 1 min read

Another story, here I go again. Thought that it was something, but it was anything else instead.

Because…

I ke-ept… running to the post office, before it locked. I ke-ept… searching for your letters in my mailbox.

How could I have thought your stamp was like the King’s seal? Weren’t you the one who said you’d keep it real?

But no longer can I know where you’re coming from. No longer can you be a friend to keep me strong.

You thought I’d be the one to fade away. But I’m still here - I’m still here - and I’ll keep you at bay!

So here we are, sitting face to face - but through a slab of glass that won’t ever be replaced.

Where do we go? Where do we go from here? I can’t go on like we’re in the clear.

Don’t you know…

I ke-ept… running to the post office, before it locked. I ke-ept… searching for your letters in my mailbox.

How could I have thought your stamp was like the King’s seal? Weren’t you the one who said you’d keep it real?

But no longer can I know where you’re coming from. No longer can you be a friend to keep me strong.

You thought I’d be the one to fade away. But I’m still here - I’m still here - and I’ll keep you at bay!
